Hello,

It has been a while hope you're all well! I've been trying to get my 'inner-house in order' recently... But I can relate to the previous thread - it has not been without moments of self-sabotage

I have just applied for a job that would actually be amazing to get. It would be interesting, I do need it (financially) and it actually relates to my degree and would be a definite step in the right direction! But, recently I have really had a wake up call - humbled by the talent that's out there to compete with - and the hard work I need to do (I'm going for self-discipline mode..). So, attempting to make waves in the work sphere I'm actually interested has made me feel small, but determined.. Reality-check would be the phrase of the month :)
Anyway, I asked the Yi How should I consider my application?

15.5 > 39

I have had a little experience with the company and have done a related course - but have not had any proper practical experience of the job. I am also young etc..

The line does not seem clear cut - Is it advising to be firm and confident in my ability to do the job when challenged by my potential employees? But to remember to remain modest and 'obedient'?

Thanks very much :)
As the application has been sent it's out of my hands.. but perhaps if I'm called for an interview I should bear in mind something from this line??

Line 15.5 suggests the following, that you do indeed apply but do not make any academic or work related claims that are false.

Hex 39 says that you face some very strong competition from other applicants, and that there is absolutely no way to get around this little problem but nevermind, treat this whole thing as a learning experience in preparation for the next job that you apply for.

Hi Em Ching,

In addition to Willowfox's point, I'd say that to me 15.5 is a "chop wood, carry water" kind of an answer (I'm using LiSe's interpretation here) - it does suggest success, but the success one works towards methodically yet - ahem - modestly, the fact that Willowfox stresses by warning you against making false claims on the CV. Basically, list your relevant qualities carefully, submit the application and let the process take its course. Best of luck!

P.S. Incidentally, I got 15.5 only today in response to a question about meeting somebody special within the next 3 months...In this context, it seems to tell me to "get out there" but be less of an attention seeker that I am, then I suppose the answer is quite positive... ;)Time to practice some modesty, then LOL!

Ok thanks both :)
The application has been sent anyway but I don't think I've made strictly false claims, except the usual - - but everyone expects that right! Lol...

I'm pretty sure that I can back up what I said in practice but yes makes sense - in light of my approach best not to big-up aspects of my life in the application, that I don't necessarily big-up in real life

But I feel like I'm a relatively strong candidate but fully expect the strength of a stampede to be offering what I have and more (39). But still - can but try - and I will remember to make sure my integrity and sincere wish to work for them shows through if I am called for an interview. Perhaps approach more practically rather than idealistically..

But, when you get to the interview, then becareful of what you say as they will most likely catch you out there, and if not straight away, I am sure they will check your claims out carefully as it is so easy to do these days.
What you learn by going through this process will greatly enhance your chances next time.
