could you please tell me exactly how you do your calculations? I think I understand but need clarification. Being one of the house of water, for myself, makes much more sense than being a muddy monkey.

Each trigram has a calendaric reference in this method (the same that I use to calendaric reference in "diagnosis" kind of questions)

Starting with Fire (2nd half of december and the entire January) and following the Post Heaven Order, one gives 45 days aprox for each trigram

So, one localize the date of born in this Post Heaven Order; and that trigram is one's House for the external world.

July 6 belongs to Water trigram in the Post Heaven Order: so House of Water in the external world
December 8 belongs to Wind trigram in the Post Heaven Order: so House of Wind.
and so on...

Birth hex is Earlier Heaven hexagram. It tells what kind of individual you are, how you develop in the world.

Then you change the line, and you switch the trigrams, put the upper one below and the lower one above, this gives the Later Heaven hexagram, which indicates the harvest, the second part of life.

You find the Primordial Hexagram by changing the trigrams according to the Earlier- and Later-heaven diagrams. Fire (top in later heaven, which is the older diagram) becomes Heaven (top in earlier heaven, but actually the younger diagram). The line stays where it is, without changing it. This hexagram indicates the idea before realization, the meaning or purpose of your life.

Nuclear hexagram: inner life, mental structure.

Birth hexagram with its line changed (its relating hex) is the hex of your future, or it indicates your subconscious possibilities. This is similar for later and primordial hexagrams, the relating hexagram is about their possibilities.

The lines stand all for a certain time. A yin line for 6 years, a yang line for 9 years. The first year is from birth until December 21, then the second year starts. So the first year can be very short. You start with the birthline, so that one counts for the first 6 or 9 years. Then the line above that one, after the top line going on with the bottom line, until all lines are 'used up'. Then you proceed with the fanyao of the birthhex, the changed line in the 'future' hexagram, and do the same. So the life span is between 75 and 105 years maximum.
