‘Yi is a document that should not be set at a distance
About the Yi as a beloved parent, he talks about how Westerners often react to this: what, my parents are beloved? He describes working with a young man who said his father is an 'alcoholic son of a bitch' and that he didn't want anything to do with him. Karcher talks about how this leads us to what he calls 'ancestor work,' (perhaps therapeutic or Jungian work) and the need to find something in everyone - including our parents - to honor.
Diamanda, I'm wondering if you're responding mostly to what I said, or what was in the Stephen Karcher video, or both?A parent who abuses their own children is an abomination. Finding something to honour in an abuser, especially a parental abuser, is destructive for the abuse victim.
