business question cash in or not cash in 1>19 and 53>63

I have given up lucrative work due to something which came up on the property portfolio - this has been sveral hours of work and no income generated for 2 weeks.

This is not good business practice and even though I think my pension is in property
- I am quite worn down by being a slave to paperwork.

My creative and healing vision is always compromised and on hold - indefinitely it
feels at times

questions do I sell up and cash in to get capital and energy for my vision

1.3.4.5.6>19 the 8 month danger warning in 19 always concerns me every august.
maybe as a 2nd hexagram it isnt as relevant

I asked what if I continue on as I have been doing

53.1.6 > 63 gradual progress always gives me a positive sense and the lines ring positive
but 63 is a tenuous many a slip twixt cup and lip hexagram

I am thinking the 2nd reading is saying partially sell up

help with interpretation appreciated as I am fed up of looking at grindstone and
missing the smell of the roses - life slipping by in fast forward motion

me doing 500 pound an hour work I am unqualified in - so taking me all week

The reading suggests applying yourself creatively, and that you can put in large amounts of activity in Line 3. But activity all day will not in any way take you out of worry and concern...see Line 3 with its comments about the night. Also, there is a transition that you have not full made in Line 4.

Further, H1.6 indicates that arrogance will cause you to have a reason to repent. I would also think that a less aggressive posture (a partial sale) might be the note of caution called for in H1.6. Don't be so arrogant about the creative that you burn through your wings and crash.

The second reading does not indicate a bad fate but there is a sense that you will not arrive in the same place. Right now you are at the doubts and fears of Line 1...you need to think about the situation, define it, make things clearer in your mind. The road leads on and you do reach the heights in Line 6, but you are just at the start.

Thank you Tiger in the Boat - I keep finding myself at a loss
about the line meanings in hexagrams. As a 19 year old student
a housemate introduced me to the I ching - using the wilhelm
version. It was so esoteric to me at the time I worked with my
vague impressions around the hexagrams. I then found the
damian knight i ching on love (as young women wanting to marry
might do!) and followed that. The more mature comprehension
of the lines of the Yi are not immediate to me. Hilarys interps
are helpful but I only have online interpretations.

These line significances you have given are REALLY helpful. How
do you recommend I improve my understanding of the lines?

It is helpful to have a selection of books...while the translations do vary somewhat, is the commentaries and interpretations that vary the most. Having a selection of commentaries and translations starts to give the active mind a three dimensional object instead of a two dimensional flat piece of paper.

We are very blessed, I think, to have living authors among us. Hilary's book is beautiful and insightful and would be a fine companion to carry through the years. I keep one copy at work and one at home.

Bradford Hatcher's books are a scholarly treasure, for those of us who really want to know what the text actually says and why all those translations can't agree. I make use of my set daily. This isn't a beginner's book, but you can use and dowload an online version of Brad's book free at Brad's site: Brad Hatcher's site

None of this is a substitute for daily practice...the more you do, the more you begin to understand. It is a language and a set of symbols, and you can learn to think in it. People who immerse themselves, like Hilary, now see the world through those symbols.

One more very inexpensive book, which took care of my needs for many years, in the Blofeld edition of the I Ching. But the used hardcover for a few dollars at Amazon; the paperback editions fall apart easily.
