can there be 4 hexagrams in one reading?

A friend of mine has me ask a question silently and then gives me the hexagrams w/ or 2/o changing lines. But today he has given me 4 hexagrams which I'm wondering how he gets so many? This is what he gave me today. If anyone can give insight on this, I would be so grateful. Thank you.:bows:
57 lines 3,4,5,6
40
49 lines 2,3,5,6
and 38

It seems he has two responses... Hex. 57 changing to 40 (57.3.4.5.6>40)... and hex. 49 changing to 38 (49.2.3.5.6>38). Not sure if he asked twice or it's two different questions, but you could consider all hexagrams and lines. YW.
