Confused with the answer: 14.2.4.6 changing to 36

Dear All,

I asked the question: "What will happen to my deals now that it will take until July before anything can get moving again?" and the answer came up as 14 with changing lines 2, 4 and 6; the resulting kua is 36.

Some background: An event happened at work that will put all my investment deals on hold until July (about 3 months) and 3 months is a long time in deal making especially "urgent" deals. There is real possibility that the deals will walk away and that would be bad hence the question.

Reading the answer and changing lines, they are all very positive but why the resulting kua is Darkening of light, which is usually not good? Is it actually a positive answer or negative of mixed? What does kua 36 in this case mean? Any comments / help with interpretation is appreciated.

I have also had the same question when I have received Hexagram 36 as the relating figure (or resulting figure.) Hexagram 36 is a time for hiding your light in order to survive a difficult situation.

Hexagram 14 certainly is auspicious --- Great Harvest.

Are you asking the question because you have a choice of actions in this moment? It sounds as though your hands are tied. And that may be the "36" aspect of the situation. In this case 36 seems more like a "relating" figure than a "resultant" figure, i.e., I do not believe the "Harvest" will lead to a wounded 36 position. The 36 feels more "past/present" than "future." Does that resonate?

Thanks for your input. If you put it that way then yes I can see that it makes more sense.

I initially thought I might be able to control the situation by deliberately delaying the process. However, having asked Yi the question, I then realized 3 months would be a big gap to cover that it would probably just make the situation worse. So, now I think all I can do is to honestly notify and explain to my target companies that our talks will have to be suspended until July and then hope / pray that they would be OK with the delay. Of course, the cause of the delay is not my fault and it is completely out of my control.

Could the "hiding my light" bit mean that I should not try to control the situation / just lay low? That would make a lot of sense but does the kua 14 (Harvest) also indicate that the deals will probably stay on?

Thank you again for helping me understand - didn't know resultant kua could also become a reflection of the present. Could such a switch in the kua position apply to all the hexes or just this particular hex 36?

Vince: What I know is that some people view the hexagram that is rendered from changing the changing lines in the reading to be the "resultant" hexagram and see it as the "future". Other people call it the "relating" hexagram. When I studies with Stephen Karcher he said that this "relating" figure could be the past, present, or future and the questioner could have an intuitive sense of which applied. And this is true of all the hexes, not just particular to hex 36.

Hilary may have a blog about the resultant hexagram and she may have a section about it in her course. Also, you can search this site for "resultant" or "relating" hexagram and read other's thoughts about this question.

Just for the record. I had a discussion with the companies and although they were somewhat disappointed, they thought they could still work with the delay.

So hex 36 being the present situation seems to be the correct way of interpreting it. Hex 14 indicated a positive situation and that also turns out to be correct.
