I would be grateful to anyone for input on the following issue regarding #27 changing to #56. In #27, with lines 1, 3, and 4 moving, the text for line 1 shows its subject to be greedy and driven by their desires ("abandoning the spiritual tortoise"). In the process, line 1 is staring at line 4, covetous of what it possesses and how it is nourishing itself. However, I am far less clear about the text and explanation for line 4 (primarily because of the great variety of translations and explanations of the line by I-Ching scholars). Apparently, line 4 is, similar to line 1, also staring (or glaring) menacingly as it seeks nourishment from "below" (although Richard Wilhelm says it is seeking it from line 6!?), and is also trying to nourish others (hence the notions of selfless behavior and "good fortune" resulting from it).

I would like to know who, in the line structure, line 4 is staring/glaring at (I assume it is line 1), and who it seeks nourishment from, and, very importantly, what is happening overall or holistically in this situation when lines 1, 4 (and, of course, 3) are all moving lines, such as the example which I initially offered?

Thanks for your help.

Dan H.
