Hi All
I have been driving myself crazy for weeks trying to decide whether to throw most of my savings into buying a small house in Greece (I live in Ireland) which I would aim to spend more time in as I get closer to retiring but would most likely not spend too much time at for a good while. It's not impossible though that my employment circumstances could soon change forcing me to find new creative ways of making a living. I'm also waiting for a decision on my Irish citizenship application which would allow me to live full time in Greece. So while there are a few variables and risks in my circumstances I fear that if I don't act on buying soon prices will get out of reach for me. So I asked the oracle to give me a definitive answer as to whether going ahead with the purchase would be a good idea at present and received 56 unchanging. I'm seeing that as saying that either I would be in an open and undefined situation if I were to do so or that things are that way for me now. Anyone have any perspectives on this please?

H56 The Wanderer/Travelling.
The wanderer is constantly on the move with no fixed place to live or stay. He is constantly in transit.

You indicate yourself that several things in your life are in flux.
In that sense, H56 seems more like a description of the situation than an answer to your question.
A situation that H56 says is uncertain. A wanderer must live with uncertainty and have the quality to keep adapting to new circumstances again and again.
Are these the right circumstances to invest your savings in a house in Greece?
Personally, I would see this as a No, but who am I?

The challenge with questions where a Yes or No is expected, is that you have to distil the Yes or No from the answer yourself, which sometimes is not easy. Next time, you may be better off asking "What is the effect when I do/or don't do X ".

This would be my interpretation. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest ;)

Thank you for your reply Hans. You are right about phrasing the question correctly. I usually don't succumb to that. Uncertainty is certainly very prevalent, in ways I haven't mentioned too. I shall reflect further.

OK. As you pointed out the phrasing left room for a very ambiguous answer I asked, " If I was to go ahead and purchase this house now how could I expect circumstances to develop afterwards?" to which I got Hexagram 14, line 1,2 and 5 into Hexagram 33. Now I can choose to see 14 and its lines as advice that taking care around making mistakes early on is to be watched for yet lines 2 and 5 seem to suggest an ability to make the situation work by being the best of myself. Yet I'm a little confused by 33 in this regard. Any ideas about this?

Hi Phil63
56 - This at best would only be a temporary resting place for you. Things may not all be as they seem.
14 <> 33 - Great idea (14) but take a long step back from this version of it at the moment. The context in which to hold this venture screams out withdraw (33).
14.1 - Let things unfold in your inner world. Consider the pros and cons carefully particularly long term aspects in the outer world.
14.2 - There will be a heavy burden placed on you. Consider the options, do your homework and understand the type of support you will need and plan accordingly.
14.5 - A new direction or structure for your 'great idea' may well appear to you when you consider things more carefully and more deeply.

... of course, there may be other interpretations that carry more meaning for you.

Good Luck

56. The Traveler. Perhaps this is a reference to your intention not to move there full time just yet, a place you would travel to and from. Perhaps it is a heads up that you ought to consider if you really would want to have your money tied up in a place you only visit now and then. I also wonder if there is the possibility you would want to rent the house out to other travelers - perhaps make it an airBandB?

14.1.2.5 - 33, Abundant / Retreat could mean the property would make a nice place for retirement.

Hi Rosada,
You are not too far off describing the scenario I am considering through a present with many issues, e.g. potential of losing my job requiring new income scenarios but significant redundancy pay; not 100% certain of regaining EU citizenship as a UK citizen though as I've lived in Ireland for over 35 years it should be fine but it's taking forever (at present I can only stay in Greece for 90 every 180 days). As of recently I am caring for (as much as possible) a terminally ill sibling. I by nature have a tendency to overthink and want to be more certain of risky outcomes than is realistically possible. However, what you have said is close to how I view the potential of taking the plunge.

Hi there my_key,
I have probably been thinking and rethinking the pros and cons as much as I can and crossing the line into overthinking and over analysing when there is always an element or risk and the unknown in any decision like this. Rosada's description below is quite close to my hopes for how things may go if I'm on the right track. If I am making a major mistake the risk, as I see it, is I will have most of my material wealth tied up in a white elephant that could take time to sell and I'd come out being down a bit on my original investment. Apart from that I have used a lot of my spare time travelling to many different places and to buy a home in one of them may create an obligation to go there rather than roam more freely. Thanks so much for offering your thoughts. I am finding peoples' feedback great in considering where my thinking is coming from.
