Thanks to those who LIKED the previous post a while ago about a big, bad new ebook on the I Ching. I’m hoping a few more people might be tempted to look at the MUCH shorter introductory guide (less than 50 pages) with a similar title. It’s called

Life Unfolding in the Periodic Table, Traditional Tales, and the Yi Jing: Shorter Version for General Readers

Like the two original pdfs (Part 1 & Part 2, each several hundred pages – eek! – but with lots of illustrations to break up the text), it’s available to read and download free of charge via these weblinks:

https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Gillian-Scott-Zukovskis/publications

(There’s also a brief summary, less than 40 pages, aimed at Homeopaths.)

The focus is on how the I Ching represents a path of development, matching our journey through life. Like Stephen Karcher and Scott Davis, I suggest the usual (King Wen) sequence of hexagrams runs from the earlier years at the start, moving gradually towards adult maturity and death at the end (with potential for rebirth or even escape from the wheel of existence).

I’ve then added more patterns within this basic process of Evolution from simpler to more complex. I’ve done this by comparing the series of Changes in the I Ching with sets of episodes in myths and traditional stories – 2, 8 and 18. And I’ve argued that these various ways of expressing our human experience actually share deep roots in the world around us. In particular, they resonate with the repeated rhythms followed step by step in the periodic table in science for the building blocks of matter.

Each individual hexagram in turn paints a detailed picture for a particular stage of (self-) discovery, giving advice about risks and benefits, with pointers for growth and pitfalls to avoid. In this way, the I Ching offers a tool for understanding how each single person and each unfolding situation is part of ‘life, the universe and everything’.

If you do have a look, I'd love to hear any feedback.

Thanks for your message - hope you don't get indigestion! With hindsight, it might have been better if I'd broken down the different aspects into separate bite-size chunks.
