Hi Friends of Clarity,

I do not know much about posting, so I hope i am doing it right.
I live in Newcastle,New.South Wales,Australia and I have been using the I Ching, on and off for about 15 years.
When I bought my computer,naturally I started to search the web,for I Ching,sites, for articles,computer software etc.
I have found onlineclarity to be a truly excellent website, introducing me to much useful information, particularly books to buy, websites to explore,as recommended by Hillary,LiSe and others.
In fact,it was through really carefully examining the contents of the site, that I was led to LiSe's website, which I have found to be quite briliant.
I would personally like to thank them boyh for their wonderful dedication.
About 6 weeks ago I went on a holiday to Queensland for a short time,to stay with my Brother at Ipswich, not far from Brisbane.
I felt a strong, intuitive inclination, to revisit a bookshop in Brisbane, that I had previously spent a lot of time browsing in and from which I had bought quite a number of books from.
Naturally, because my interest and study of the I ching is deepening, I was drawn to the Taoist, I Ching Section.

A book caught my eye and it tugged at me a bit, sufficiantly so,that I scanned through it;a sentence or two, some paragraphs, even quite a large part of a chapter and so on.

I was'nt really sure or unsure,if I should buy it or not, because it seemed..."Well,Somewhat Unconventional"

I went away for some lunch, still pondering about whether to purchase or not.

About 3 hours later,I went back and bought the book and now I am Extremely glad I did...Grateful and feeling very privileged.

THE Name of the book;...I CHING-THE TAO OF DRUMMING by MICHAEL DRAKE.

Michael is an American of Native American Cherokee descent. He is a writer, rhythmist and ceremonial drummer as well a devotee of the I Ching.

He has Studied with master drummers from both the Native American and Mongolian shamanic traditions.Through his work,he has trained thousands in the healing art of ceremonial drumming.

He has a website called Talking Drum Publications, well worth exploring and can be doing a search through Google or copernic.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough and drumming the Tao-(I Ching)for me, has truly begun to open me up, to more peace, intuition, healing and resonance(and very quickly too).

All you need is a good quality, single sided, handheld drum, which does not have to be too expensive, his book and if you like to buy one of his tapes over the net.?

If you have never ever thought of drumming,do not be afraid, the exercises are easy to learn and with a little committed practice, you will wonderfully powerful results.

IMHO- you cannot go wrong.

Kind Regards to everyone,

Johnro

Wow, what a rap!. Hi Johnro,

Interesting connection between the Native American and the I Ching. I was just reading Wanderers posting on Hexagram 1. He mentioned the image of horses and how they represented a perfect universal model of the creative and receptive, in harmony. It have an interest in Native American 'totem' spirits, horse is connected to 'power', with similiar qualities as described by the Chinese. I will put a quote on that post from the medicine cards. Thanks for posting this, I will have a look for the book.
By the way, my wife bought me a 'tabla', an arabic drum, which is more for belly dancing than drumming the tao, but it just might work!

Hi friends of clarity,

I have posted my message to open space.

Is it possible to copy my posting to another area of the forum;i.e- say to friends forum or divination area.?

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes perhaps the 'Tabla' will work quite well.

You can even start off just tapping the Binary, Elemental,Trigram Rhythms with yor fingers tapping on the sequences.

What Is so beautiful ,is that when you have drawn a Hexagram(s), from any method you like, you can then drum the the Rhythmic Pattern of the Pattern Image{The Hexagram(s)},for a few minutes, The power of the Beats( single for yang and two half(heart)beats for Yin,begins to develop a resonance to the sound and intuition, understanding, healing and synchronicity develop.

Michael's first book;"Shamanic Drumming" Is a wonderful book as well which goes profoudly into exercises of the seven directions of the medicine wheel in which you can learn much about(Windhorse-Spirithorse beat),Eagle brother, laughing Coyote,Bear walk,Buffalo beat, Earth Eagle, as well as journey work if you wish to engage.

Talking Drum publications, sell online a tape for shamamic drumming, as well as the I Ching tape.

Both his books and tapes are very inexpensive.

Best Regards,

Johnro

I've found drumming through the complete sequence, trying not to break the rhythm to 'think', gives me glimpses of a different way of concentrating. And in divination, I've found concentrating on the rhythm while breathing tells me something. Inhale through the lower trigram, exhale through the upper one, and feel the 'threshold' between the two.

Clearly in any way we can minimize our separation as "the self" and accentualize our integration as "the whole" we gain perspective. Is this not the thread of most disciplines? The literal meaning of "losing oneself".

Hi hillary,

I have'nt worked through the "wavespell" much yet but I will certainly put your suggestion to the test.

You are a very intuitive woman.

Thank You,

Johnro

"I've found concentrating on the rhythm while breathing tells me something. Inhale through the lower trigram, exhale through the upper one, and feel the 'threshold' between the two."

That realy resonated

I am now thinking of Hx.1 as ehailing and projecting outside.

And

Hx.2 as inhaling and focussing on my centre.

Thanks
