Me and a friend are not speaking at this time but we have unsettled issues in the air that we're both propably confused about. I had a dream we finally talked some things out but I could only see the back of his head most of the time. We talked calmly but he sort of avoided eye contact. The room was white and we wore white. A white bed was in the room that we sat on/ layed on, then he went and sat with his back to me in a chair, but we still talked calmly, things were relaxed. Can anyone tell me if this whole setting has some theme?

Yes, but it is the coolness of a morgue. His avoiding eye contact and turning his back on you means that you will not get the interaction you want. White is the color of death. Ghost and corpses are white, and Chinese mourners traditionally wear white. The dream is telling you that your relationship is not viable. Sorry. According to the theory of dreams of Sakis Totlis, except in the case of nightmares, dreams are cathartic.

I don't see this as being necessarily prophetic. White to me would represent missing the essential material to base the future of this relationship on. Being ignored is more than likely what you are feeling: unsettled issues, to use your words. It probably represents your insecurity and uncertainty. If this relationship is important to you I suggest setting about filling in some colors to your sketchy concerns.

Gerald Epstein, MD, an imagery expert, teaches a technique of "dream correction." Basically it is an imagery exercise in which one sits in a relaxed state with your two feet on the ground and your hands separated on your thighs or the chair arms (the "pharoh" position) while paying attention to your breathing. One takes long slow out breaths and short or normal in breaths. Once the body is relaxed one imagines numbers going backwards:5,4,3,2,1, and then 0. On "O" you reenter the dream scene and make changes to it in your imagination. You can add color to it. You can ask your friend to turn and face you.

And why not ask Yi for an image of the theme of the dream?

This excercise should do what? I guess it's a meditation. but what function is it for?

My understanding of Dr. Epstein's work is that "imagery" has a creative function. So, if what Pocossin says is true, that "The dream is telling you that the relationship is not viable.", then it may be possible that the "dream correction" exercise could give you information about how to revive the relationship. If what sooo says is correct, i.e., white representing "missing the essential material to base the future of this relationship on", an imagery exercise could give you some information about what is needed regarding the unsettled issues.

Imagery work is both diagnostic and therapeutic. In some ways, your dream is "diagnostic". Doing an exercise to imagine color and imagine your friend turning to look at you could be the first step of a "therapeutic" action. It may also be diagnostic. You might be surprised by what happens if you do the imagery work and you may gain more insight.

Before something is created is must first be imagined.

I am interested in knowing how the I Ching would answer you if you asked, "What is the theme of this dream?" You could post that in the Dreams and Yi forum.

I am posting again to give another perspective. I wasn't sure about the accuracy my understanding of Dr. Epstein's work in regard to dreams. (I only studied with him for one year.) And so I went to his website to see if he had an explanation of it there. On this page, http://drjerryepstein.org/content/your-dreams, he talks about How to Reverse a Nightmare. Your dream does not sound like you experienced it as a nightmare and so the "dream correction" exercise may or may not apply. Perhaps Sakis Totlis view of it noninightmare dreams being cathartic applies.

Anyway, there are many different ideas about dreams. It might be interesting for onlineclarity to analyze your dream by asking the I Ching a question about it.

Where did goddessliss's comment go? I thought it was also a good point that white could indicate a fresh start. And why is it the Western brides wear white? Am I correct in thinking that Asian brides wear red?

I am wondering if color means different things in different cultures and to different people. I know that Gerald Epstein assigns his own meanings to colors in dreams and I always wondered if his assignments them became true for the people who studied his system, if they were only true for those in Western Spiritual traditions, or if they were universally true.

adding what I recently remembered...

In this dream, my friend was fussing at me before I realized I got my footing in the dream- before I realized it was about him. Like his voice faded in or my ears faded in or something. Just figured I should add that but I don't know that it matters.

I took my response off because no thanks was forthcoming from rudemuse. She/he is not the only one but I'm a bit over it really so it will be few and far between now that I respond to and if there is no acknowledgment that I took the time to help them out then I will remove my response. I don't take it personally but manners are very important to me.

So sorry. I thought I was doing good with the thankyou button once I realized it was there. I understand it takes time and research sometimes. You are/were appreciated. Thank you again goddessliss.

Good idea jumpingmouse regarding asking the iching about the dream. So I tried it, I got 35>8. I am horrible at figuring out the I Ching.
