I tend in the other direction here. the doctor wants to induce labor, but your own voice was saying to let it keep growing to maturity, let it come full-term. There might be a temptation to doctor the situation, but would it be premature? Yes, the hands and feet are formed and very eager to live, a good sign, however there could be more development needed .. as indicated by your shock...you want it to survive once it is born! BUT YES, something is definitely forming, I would make preparations, nurture the devlopment.
The reason that I don't agree with Listener is due to consideration of 19, which to use Bradford's title is: Taking Charge.
The fact that the little hands and feet of the child were "pushing to get out" also really speak to me. I think this means it is time for you allow that, and the doctor in your dream probably knew that inducing would be what was best for you, but only asked because he was aware that once the "child" is out, the "child" must be nurtured. And if the doctor represents another, part of you, a care-giver or healer representative of your psyche, then he also knew that you may not be ready. So he was looking after the interest of the "child" as well.
Yes the doctor is created by you also so must represent the part that wants to move things along. I think the dream just represents a conflict in you of whether to give birth to this thing now or not. It doesn't tell you whats best - that choice is up to you.
Some therapists would have you act out the role of the doctor, your self and the baby - you know you would speak from the drs point of view , then the babys and then yours - maybe putting yourself in a different place or chair for each role to get a perspective on what parts of you these characters represent.
This never worked for me however, but its just an idea
