Hello to all

I have a perplexing answer that I woudl like some opinion on... I asked in regards to an ex (we break up five or six months ago) who I am still friends with and lately I have wanted to get back together with her, but she is with somebody new and plus I dont want to jeopardize our friendship with any rash actions.
I asked the oracle, "At this time what is R's attitude towards tryign again with me?"
I received Hexagram 42.1, Increase, "It furthers one to udnertake something...", line one saying "Use this to accomplish great deeds, supreme good fortune". The relating hexagram is H20, Contemplation, "Hand washing not yet sacrificng/possessing true devotion".

Is the Yijing telling me that R sees it as fruitful to "increase" in trying again with me? Or is it telling me that I am the one who should be increasing it? What's the story here?

It furthers one to undertake something, but what that something is is what's up to interpretation. Wilhelm stresses the ethical increase in character. LiSe exhibits her wonderful Sagittarius qualities, interpreting line 1 as doing. You can do. Go do! To Bradford, it appears value, in general, is guided toward increasing; that is: value over doing.

However you mix it up as being your increase - and that can include increasing others. In fact, I see it as a key to opening ones own gates to receive increase. Giving to others opens those gates to receiving increase. At least that's how I interpret it. However, the proportions do not seem to add up, using conventional wisdom. Good things happen to bad people, and bad things happen to good people. Increase, then, becomes whatever increase means to you. That can literally mean increase in material wealth or in ethical wealth, or both. It's always raining gifts though. Each breath is a gift. We also breathe back out, to empty (decrease), to breathe in another fresh breath. A marvelous stroke of luck. But increase can bring bad luck, as well, and decrease can bring potential for good. What does the time require?

With your question, you were asking what was going on in R's mind, and Yi often answers such questions with perplexing answers. Yi is not your spy, you see. It would be better if you asked R your question directly and also let her know your feelings for her. You seem to have plenty of good feelings for her.

I udnerstand that "Increase" may not be for me, exacttly and also that Yi doesnt necessary answer questions of this nature... But also it seems like the Yi doesnt just give an answer out of tthin air without consideration of what is ask. I suppose that's why I ask for help in undersatanding.

Wit what you said in mind I asked the oracle about taking an action rather than asking about somebody else- "What would be the outocome of asking R to get back together with me?"

Response: Hexagram 42 Increase (again!), moving lines 4 and 5, change to hexagram 21, Biting Through
4- "Move to tthe center, notify the prince, he follows- use this to move the city"
5- Truth, confidence, and benevolence are my own strength

I dont want to make the mistake of assuming that the "increase" is an increase to my desire or feelings... This seems like a favorable statement toward mmy undertaking, line 5 is aa no brainer, bhbut line 4 seems confusing

I've been asking and thinking a lot about this prince lately. The one who gets the cauldron's contents spilled onto him , the one who casts his commands to the winds, the authority and intermediary between two worlds; the one to whom you show your seal to. To gain the prince's seal is an honor and an increase.

This does seem like a confusing line. It apparently means that there is a need for you to speak of what's important to you, with a view towards convincing others of your trustworthiness and fitness in general. I don't think it is saying you would automatically be believed and followed, but that you are in the correct position for speaking up.
