Hi everyone,

I'm in the midst of applying to graduate school and am just starting to hear back about acceptances/rejections. My first choice school (whatever that really means) has already issued at least one acceptance, which is often (but not always) a sign that the Department has made its decisions as to who to admit and no news is probably bad news.

I emailed the Department yesterday asking about the status of my application and whether final decisions had been made. I got a cryptic email back from the Department Administrator that said she couldn't share any information, that I would hear either way by the middle of March. The answer was unexpected -- these emails usually result in a "you're in" or "you're out" -- and so I decided to consult the Iching.

I asked: What is happening with X school? I received: 49 unchanging.

I know that 49 is about radical change, shedding old skin, moving towards a new time. But I am having trouble applying it here. As I see it, 49 could be read in two very different ways. It could be saying that the school is making a decision that will open a new time in my life. But I could also see how it could be read to say that it is the school that needs to be shedded, that I should forget about being accepted and move on to something else.

If anyone has any insight, I would greatly appreciate hearing it. :) Thank you!

Another reading, maybe simplistic , is that 49 just echoes the email :
On your own day You are believed.

IOW, they will announce the results on their own time

Hmm. Does the "change" at the heart of 49 not come into this at all then? The translations I've read seem not to see 49 as being about timing as much as the changing of time.

the interpretation I offered-which might be totally off-was not about timing but about the process they keep. A time for accepting applications, a time for accessing the, a time to announce their decision to the candidates. There are many ways to read 49, the question is what morphs the answer. For instance 49 could be what you said or that the Uni goes into a change or an inner revolution happens inside or... the list is endless.

Its my impression only, that Yi might responds to your anxiety re the results. It might says: the email means nothing ( neither positive or negative); you will get the answer when its the day they have cycle on their calender.

I hope other chime in and offer other points of view.

good luck with the results . Hope you'll get accepted to the program you want .

Thank you anemos, that is very kind of you to say.

Your take is really interesting, I've always thought of Hex 49 as something almost physical -- that the movement of time is literal. I did ask what was happening with the school, so maybe the "movement" is on their end as they are still deciding and I will get the answer when they finish their "cycle," as you say.

you are welcome :)

A hex its like a rainbow. if you ask me how many colors a rainbow has and I respond 7, my answer is both true and false. True because it has 7 distinct colors and false because there are unmeasurable shades of each color...

Interest to know what 49 meant. Would be great if you come back and report
