Dear Yi Jing aficionados,

I couldn't wait a whole two weeks for a response after a selection interview in front of an academic committee. It is about a second lectureship at an excellent university in the South of China. I got admitted with the same national organization at another university almost eight years ago, returned to my home country five years later and want to teach there again form winter term 2015.
So I asked the I Ching: "What are the chances of getting accepted as a lecturer in China after the selection interview?"
The answer of the I Ching (3 coin method): H40.3, "Release" changing to "Lasting" (H32).
First I was happy with the answer, as long as I am clear about where I am heading, with the right attitude, the outcome would be fortunate. I should only take care not to dissipate my energies.
The words of the image also seemed to hint at a lenient stance of the committee ("pardons transgressions").:D
Line 3 got problematic: What is meant by the burden?
My current, not very satisfying situation, on and off temporary jobs in academia or teaching at "dubious" language schools, at the same time feeling pushed into self-employment - even if it is still too early and the necessary resources are lacking.
Probably line 3 hints at my performance during the interview?

So I got an uneasy feeling about line 3. How would you understand the reading, particularly line 3 in my context? What could be meant by the robbers?

Would be great to get some hints and suggestions from you:bows:

Hi Michael.

Interesting reading. Well the burden can probably mean your experiences, it is something you carry. I was thinking that maybe you are being too confident with those experiences or maybe even with interview process. Or maybe you're expecting to pass the interview with flying colors, how they say, but are there other people having the same interview? Maybe they do better than you... which in this case can be the robbers. So, overall it's advising to liberate yourself from those expectations because there is 'humiliation', which might happen if you don't get it at the end. Maybe you can ask on how to improve your chances on passing the interview. Good luck though ;)

Hi Juaneros,
good suggestions, thank you.
Line 3 is still baffling me, how does it relate to my question, does it take precedence over everything else (the other hexagram texts?) As to the interview itself, the questions they asked were very different from what I had prepared and expected. In fact, you can't really prepare for it. Yes, there are several competitors and I fear they might get the better of me. And a refusal would indeed disappoint my expectations and might lead to a sense of humiliation for some time.

I heard when you get one changing line you just focus on that, you can probably focus on the hexagram that goes with it, so hex 40 in your case, liberation, and you not need to worry about the resulting hex, in your case hex 32, duration. But I dunno, might be different with other people casting. The reason not to focus on the resulting hexagram is because there is not much change with one line, if there are multiple lines (more than two) then there is much greater change and that's when you focus on a resulting hexagram. Hope all goes well though with it, maybe you are feeling a bit anxious about it, so work on releasing that, maybe everything goes well at the end, don't over-think it :)

Juaneros, good to hear from you again. So I wait and see, only a week left till they will tell me about the outcome. The Yi Jing is not very clear, probably the decision is still pending and being processed by the organisation. So the seeds doesn't seem to have sprouted yet:brickwall:
About the resulting hexagram 32: I thought it could express a tendency, here a more enduring professional orientation, job or field of interest. Also in the sense of a more enduring "liberation", "release".
Would be great if other members could join in...:stir:

em ching, sorry, I have overlooked your question. The outcome was positive, I am now at a university in the south of China. There have been some hitches on the way, though.
