Has anyone had any POSITIVE experiences with Hex 51?

I thought I would post in this section here as I am looking for personal experiences regarding Hex 51 SHOCK?

Has anyone ever had
a good, HAPPY, exhilarating, earth moving, thundering (in a GOOD way)
personal experience with HEX 51?
Like a surprise?

Or does this hex always have to be painful in some way?

51 does not necessarily imply anything painful. It is arousing, inspiring, stirring, and exciting. With that, it is time to be aroused, to face difficulties, and to fulfill ambitions and desires. The point is that while there may be difficulties, there is now light. It says that you are to proceed logically, step-by-step, to overcome problems. It sometimes promises great good surprises, sudden good luck. Never be over-confident or shortsighted. That is a sure way to failure. Otherwise, this gua is a pretty good one.

people compare HEX 51 SHOCK to the TOWER in the tarot even though the tarot and the i-ching are two totally separate systems.
I have had the Tower experience and it was NOT good... Didn't like it nope!

HEX 51 from researching can also mean "arousal" like you said and it can be exciting, or an unexpected sudden surprise of some kind.

I just thought I'd ask as it does denote a 'SHAKE UP" of some kind. It will move you in some way..possibly rock you to the core?

Anyone else ever get HEX 51 in their reading and it was a positive SURGE of...whatever?

There is no reason why different divinatory systems should be able to be neatly overlaid and correspond perfectly to each other IMO. I think if you are doing the I Ching then read all about 51 (look around the forum, look under the hexagram search index, under 'search', top right of page) rather than look to the imagery of the Tower....thats confusing. I think you are getting more and more confused by linking tarot and I Ching .

51 especially unchanging is often just a huge amount of excitable suspense.....thats all. I often find it links with excitement of sexual infatuation.....so I wouldn't distress yourself by expecting thunderbolts or your world to come crashing down. 51 can manifest outwardly of course...but if you are asking about emotions then its emotions it will apply to.


Nice suprises that rock your world can also manifest as 51. 51 can be for example someone you have a secret crush on choosing to sit right next to you in the canteen at work......and then its very hard to get all your peas on your fork LOL that difficulty with the peas, thats 51 too

I have - I quite like hex 51, to be honest. Ok, I like baroque apotheoses and I looooove excitement, surprise and tense situations - so 51 is all about me in that way. I notice it often comes up in situations that touch deep emotional issues and confront me with my fears. But in a thrilling sort of way, I dont know...

I cant recall any specific example but loved trojan+s example and would say mine would be in the line:

I've never felt frightened about 51. lots of times, readings that yield 51 merely point to the background emotions in situations that at first seem shocking, or defying of the way things might have been expected to be. it could be a renovation going on in your home, or it could be an encounter you didn't expect with someone significant to you. A long time ago, I was asked if my small daughter could go to Disneyworld with other people. I was terrified to let her go. I drew 51.1:
I was feeling all shook up by the prospect, but I knew it would turn out alright.

most lines in this hex refer to the particular stage of shock.....it's already something that has happened (esp. emotionally) but sometimes, it's fading, or affecting others around you. Line 4 is the only line that seems kind of like a warning. but I feel that line 4 is just temporarily being unable to re-gain your equilibrium. afterward, there is laughter and relief.

the Tower could be similar. it's a shake-up. I am told many people fear the Tower card, but it is really about times when your life is undergoing unavoidable renovation, transformation, restoration, in a way that is beyond your control.

I have always received 51 in connection with a sexual relationship or a life change that turns my world upside down, sometimes in unexpected ways, but always interesting. It has never been dangerous or painful for me. Good luck and enjoy!

Just 2 cents here: I most often associate 51 with a phone call - either incoming or one I need to make. Usually not shocking news - the ringing of the phone is mildly shocking - the changing lines tell you whether there's a "shock" within the shock (news - good/bad). There are no negative Hexagrams but there are lines that contain advices to us of how deal with the changes caused by the shock. I wouldn't get upset over having 51 if my question was "will s/he call?" . I might be a little more concerned if I got 51 when I asked a "what's going to happen about __?" What I mostly think about 51 is "get ready for a surprise"! So .... how DO YOU feel about surprises?

OK! That's really exciting! I was reading through this tread and all your posts and I thought maybe I should write about all the times 51 came up and it was followed by a phone call... And then i read yours, Mariah!! It's just so amazing when somebody else writes about the exact same experience with the Yi! One of those "Aha! moments" i suppose..

Whenever 51 comes up i remember of this particular time when i was in the process of a reading and the phone rung just as i was drawing the final line of hex 51 unchanged! It was an unexpected call that immediately pulled me out of any confusing thougths I had and left me with a feeling of pure excitement.

I like 51. It's like an energizing shock that might completely change the current of your thoughts and feelings in a revitalizing king of way! You're sitting there wondering what to do and asking all kinds of questions, anaware of the fact that you're in for a big Surprise!!

And yeap! I have to agree that Troijan's example is really into the point there!

I have had both kinds of 51 experiences -- enLIGHTENING and just plain frightening. But in the end, they are all to the good since they are all instructive. By and large, I have liked 51 because it has something to do with dumping it all out on the floor and sorting to find what is truly important and discarding the rest. Even a lightening strike has good qualities, even if it starts a forest fire -- because it clears the underbrush away.

51 can also be someone who finds you inspiring in a big way. Or vice versa. The only preparation needed I think is to be "reading to roll." And that can be the effect of big inspiration, or just rolling with the punches, taking it as it comes. If you visualise yourself standing balanced and flexible, then you can be ready for 51, no matter what it is. I don't think the tarot has a card that is its equivalent really. Because 51 relies upon a spiritual basis at its root. I never have that feeling about the tarot, as much as I've used it for various purposes, including just fun and entertainment and playing gypsy queen for parties.

Now, as to the Tarot - used to read before I discovered I Ching >>> my brain works better with the YI rather than the images on the cards - the more elaborate they are, the more confusing to me - but, I would just interject a comment about 51 relating to the Tower in Tarot and the associated minor arcana. An image of lightening striking the Fool as he prepares to dance of the edge of the cliff - taking his silly little dog with him ...

The upside of 51 can mean that next time your lover kisses you, your lips actually ~tingle~ from it

When I got a problem with others in my work place, I take an 'negative action' but the result is good for me(they change their wrong ways) though anxiety were cause for others!

Over the last few days I have been receiving from hex 51 from Yi regarding my career opportunities.
Something positive turns up today and I was in total shock. I just couldn't believe what has happened.

I mostly get 51 when I'm afraid of something, scared to act for fear of doing it wrong or stuffing it up. I think 51 just reflects that state of nervous anxiety, being all keyed up inside. Usually it's anxiety that I need to get rid of and not be afraid to act because of it. I never really find that 51 talks of an actual shocking event, more just about how I'm feeling inside, which is usually more from anticipation of an event than anything real. I think times when it does predict something, it usually just means it'll be an unexpected thing, but unexpected doesn't mean bad necessarily. Just something that doesn't happen in the way you think it will, but then nothing ever happens like you think it will.
