Hello,
I have been considering a career change for sometime now. There are certain limitations preventing me from doing what I really want to do. It is about giving up my current job which I do not enjoy and working in an Agricultural related business. I consulted the I Ching to ask what happens if I go for a career change/ pursue my dream and the result is as below:

Hexagram 42 lines 1,5 and 6 and resulting hexagram 2.

I am confused what this seems to be telling me. Line 6 is contradictory to the initial 2 moving lines...so not sure what should I read this as.

Just to give you some context around the question. I am currently living with my husband in a foreign country and working in a company which pays me pretty good...but I am literally pulling on since its not what I really like doing. I want to join the business with my father in my home country. My father has been handling everything on his own for so long and I want to go and join him not just because he is aging and needs help but because my interest and heart lies in that work. I am a nature lover and will feel fulfilled working in the business. My husband also wants to go back home but does not want me to change my career/job and join the business with my father. Pursuing my dream will mean quite a bit of opposition from my husband and his family.

Can someone please help me read this? I will be really grateful.
Thanks in advance

Shree

What happens if I go for a career change/ pursue my dream?
42.1.5.6 > 2

Wood and Thunder in 42 and the Earth hexagram seem auspicious for agriculture, but what will happen if you make the change depends on how you make it. You appear to have conflicting loyalties to father and husband. How can the interests of both be accommodated? What would it take to persuade your husband to accept your entry into the agriculture business with your father? Does your husband fear your loss of income or status? The limitations of a rural environment? Family politics? The misfortune of line 6 I think will occur if action is taken before issues are resolved. Heart-to-heart discussions might clear the air.

Increase for All

Hello,
I have been considering a career change for sometime now.

H42 has to do with gain and loss. Sometimes, what is above must be reduced, so that what is below can be increased. As I read this, the time is right for your enterprise, both you and your father will benefit. But Line 6 is the caution about your husband, and that the increase in one area (your happiness and your relationship with your father), will tip over into its opposite with your husband unless you find a way to create increase for him as well.

All of this I think you know already. The trick will be to be absolutely sincere with your husband about your unhappiness and your motive. There has to be something that you can give him, something that will make the whole thing work. But whatever it is, it must be done openly, transparently and sincerely.

Because of the connection with H2, I suggest you not try to force this, but watch for signs that will guide you to the way of making this change happen.
