Hex 45.1.5 Meeting his friends

I received Hexagram 45.1.5 for my relationship type query.

The lovely guy I am seeing hosted an impromptu New Years party so I went out on a limb to meet his friends and workmates for the first time. We both thought it went better than we expected. There is a pretty large age gap between us - he is 16 years younger than me. (!) This is something unexpected for me. But I have never had a guy be proud and almost showing me off to his friends.

It did mean that the next day I was too tired to go tramping with other friends but I think it was important to attend. I really connected with one of his bosses who is around my age and she was supportive of the relationship and said something along the lines of - emotionally intelligent men are hard to find. He does seem several years older than he is and I look at least 5 years younger. He is very well liked and respected which was cool to see.

I thought Hexagram 45 Gathering seemed quite on track.
I'm a but worried about Hexagram 51 Shock - would that be past or present? He is going overseas in a couple of months. I mean really having a relationship doesnt make any sense but it seems like things are progressing fairly effortlessly.

Line 1 says you are hesitant but you need not be. Line 5 says that it is (or may be) only on account of a high position that he or she attracts people. He needs to demonstrate real virtues and confidence, otherwise people will have no trust in him.

Im not sure what sort of high position he has - its kind of the opposite a bit. But mind you it seems like he has risen to a good position where he works.

That is the line 5 in hex 45 -- he is very well liked and respected where he works.

Well, in my opinion it just means an increase in arousal. It usually does not mean an earthquake is about to happen!

You asked if getting 51 in response to your question, "Was it worthwhile to spend this New Year's with him?" was a reference to the past or the future. As your comments are about meeting his co-workers I think the I Ching is talking about the party itself and meeting these people (rather than a comment on the relationship.)

45. A time of enjoyable fellowship.
45.1 A bit of uncertainty as to how the co-workers would accept the two of you quickly overcome. "Regret not."
45.5 Your welcoming manner charmed even the doubters.
51. It sounds like the party was worthwhile as a way to introduce yourselves and keep everyone calm while folks dealt with the surprise of realizing the two of you are a couple.
