Hello everyone. I am new to posting on Clarity. My mother taught me to throw the IChing when I was young, yet this is the first time I have found a community of like minded people. The journey to understanding the wisdom of the IChing is a life long one, and I appreciate, in advance, any insight you might offer.

Question to the IChing: What do I need to know today?
IChing: Hex 51.2 (Shocking) leading to Hex 54 (Subordinate)

It resonated with me, because I had a challenge that I failed yesterday.

Would you read it: A shocking event creates a learning experience. (Hex 25) Do not fight it. (Line 2) Desire will lead me away from the solution. (Hex 54)

hello ichingtarot

This line indicates that you must accept your loss without worrying too much about it. The I Ching is replete with lines that indicate that "You cannot lose that which is truly yours." It also indicates that if we let things run their own course, not trying to force the issue, that things will work out in the way they are supposed to. Whether that refers to your challenge that you failed, I do not know. But it could, and if it does, it very well may turn out to be a good thing in the end.

TY and Hex 54

Gene, TY for replying to this. I am confused about the following Hex 54, tho. Subordinate seems like an especially dismal hexagram. It speaks to being the 'concumbine' of life (LOL), so to speak. How do you usually apply the resulting Hex to the original? Do you see it as the 'future' while the first Hex is the present?

In answering this question, you will find that different readers have different views regarding the relating hexagram. For me, if there is only one changing line I do not worry about it too much, because the changing line has the meaning of the second hexagram built into it in a lot of ways.

Second, I think you are taking things a little too literally. One meaning for hexagram 54 is subordination, but it also can refer to long term contracts, or it can mean a major change in life circumstances.

Here, in your failed challenge, you may feel yourself put at a disadvantage against others. But that is where the meaning of line two comes into play. The idea is to accept it for now, and allow things to unfold the way they were meant to, even though you seem to be at a disadvantage right now.

I'd read it: Line 2 suggests a recovery, and the Judgment of 54, go easy for a while, and the Image of 54, your failure will be minimal in the long run.
