I recently bumped into an estranged friend I havent seen in almost 7 years.

We used to be close but fell out over transgressions we both committed against each other.

I thought of them as my best friend at a point in the past but an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind and what not lol I didn't handle betrayal well so I lashed out.

I asked i-ching how they feel towards me currently after we bumped into each other at a cafe they work at now and they made me a cup of coffee.

Resulting throw I got was hexagram 59 changing to 1.

I'm confused on how it applies. Does it mean they're happy we separated?

I don't think so. H59 is about dissolving and dispersion, not seperating.

H59 is Wind over Water. Think of the wind over a water surface dispersing and dissolving the fog
This is where negative feelings, (emotional) blockages, etc. (Water) dissolve/disperse (Wind).

The text of the 1st line is about rescuing something with the help of a strong horse. The horse in the Yi refers to the yang energy: taking action or getting into action. No longer being passive and guided by emotion, but starting to do something based on facts.
The 3rd line text is about dissolving oneself, in other words putting aside the hurt ego.
The text of the 4th line says something similar.

What is worth noting is that the moving lines combine to form the trigram Earth which changes to Heaven. From too passive, too compliant to action, initiative, taking the lead.

I don't know if this answer is only about the other person or about the situation of both of you. Personally, I would also relate the answer to yourself, you are obviously asking the question for certain reason.
In my opinion, the answer shows that there is the potential to revive the friendship, but then you both have to commit to it.

I asked because I was curious and actually want to avoid the cafe now i know they work there until I realized it's nearly been a decade and this shouldn't stop me from living my life and it really is a cool shop/cafe.

Part of me wants to clear the air but considering our past behaviors (we were young so, I get how things spiraled out of control) I feel they have every right not to engage just as I want to avoid going to what normally would be a hang out spot for me.

Not out of anger but I just don't want to repeat mistakes or make others uncomfortable.

This at least makes me feel comfortable going there for lunch every once in a while

Yes, I think it’s good to recognize 59-1 as describing a total fresh start and not necessarily a return to your former close friendship. Think of this being a brand new lifetime and just as folks can be lovers in one lifetime and siblings in the next, consider that your relationship with your friend in this new “lifetime” may be totally different from how it was in the last one.

fwiw, I was just reading about how Saturn will be moving ahead in a new sign Nov.4th signally the solidification of new patterns, Particularly anything having to do with schedules and timing. If you are wanting to rebuild a connection with this person you might try making a point of going to the shop on a regular predictable basis, like every Tuesday at the same time.

It's strange you mention that cause I would only be able to visit maybe once or twice a month on the same day.
