Hexagram 1.1.2.4>53 fight for true love in traditional culture

Hi all,

I have been in a very long struggle to be with a man that I have loved for several years. We have been apart for over a year and a half because, though he is modern, his family is from a traditional culture in which many marriages are still arranged. I know he loves me, but we have not been able to communicate very much at all because he had gotten into an engagement at the pressure of his family which he subsequently broke.

I am getting near the end of what I can handle, and I don't know what is happening yet. So, today I cast to the Yi hoping for some insight. I have been through so much (he as well) that I think that it is difficult for either of us to believe that there may be an end in sight, since only his mother is the obstacle for us coming together formally. When I cast, I asked "how does (he) feel about us?"

I got this: Hexagram 1, 1.2.4>53

I really didn't understand the 4th line particularly. Does it mean he is wavering??? I know that his mother is still trying to get him to meet other girls (call it a gut feeling or based on experience) I am just so worn out from the situation, it is so hard to take anything positively )--though I am willing!)... I know he is not going to want to move without her blessings...

Will his mother give her blessings to him for us?

I''m just going to respond to this thread. There is no need to write another.

Hexagram 1 is a pretty spiritual hexagram. Pretty Auspicious.
I would say he think's your meant to be together or something like that.

Line 1: Maybe he doesn't have full knowledge of how he feels? Or maybe you don't quite know? Or maybe it's not yet the time to express them?

Line 2: Maybe he feels that the relationship isn't the authority in the situation. Pretty much what you said.

Line 3: It would suggest he is indecisive. But that much seems clear from what you said.

53: Shows a gradual courtship taking place. Which is probably how the situation is being handled. He's taking it slow, and gently. So patience is implied here.



Will the mother bless?

62.3 -> 16

Seems the Yi is emphasizing the need for this blessing, which seems trivial. But if ignored will lead to more difficulties. So this shows a possibility of her giving her blessing, but that getting it will be extremely difficult. And the process to getting it will require great preponderance and gravity to acquire it. So you should be like a monk in a temple, utterly humble and very earnest about the need for this sacrifice.

Your post gave a lot of aid. I had neglected the spiritual aspect of hexagram 1, and I went back to reread wilhelm:

HEXAGRAM 1 -- WILHEM. -- DESTINY

"When an individual draws this oracle, it means that success will come to him from the primal depths of the universe and that everything depends upon his seeking his happiness and that of others in one way only, that is, by perseverance in what is right"

Thinking about this makes it so much more obvious his dilemma. What is right to persevere in here? TRUE LOVE OR PARENTAL LOVE? And so much more to enlighten me on that yi also prompted me to ask simultaneously about him and his mother's blessing which you, rightly, point out that yi seems to be saying that her blessing is so important. In his mind and according to his tradition, what is right is the parent's approval and regard for the parents. But this naturally conflicts with hexagram 1 if idea of destiny or as you put it "meant to be." This is a very difficult internal space for anyone to be....and cause quite a lot of confusion...which seems clear in the changing lines.

In fact, we actually spoke about another mutual friend once who was getting enormous pressure for an arranged marriage to anyone. At that time, he said that one should go with the parents' wishes. Upon which I responded that no parent should force a person to go against his or her spirit and that anytime such a thing would happen, it would become undone anyway as God counts on us to follow our spirit, the greatest authority. He was silent...

16.3 MOTHER'S BLESSING

This makes it even more interesting when you think of how the lines here are made also to reference a higher power and forces of nature.

Actually, I went back and reread

line 1 of Hexagram 1 and Wilhelm's interpetation:

in a way, i see this as a very apt and layered image of a dragon hidden...from what i understand about chinese philosophy, the dragon was revered for its spiritual force...a hidden dragon here seems also to be suggesting that he is finding himself, his own force. I also get from Wilhelm's thoughts who says there is something earthed here. Hexagram 1 combined with line 1, seems to really indicate a real spiritual journey of someone coming to their own innate power.

Simply put, he knows what he wants...it is deep within...and the process of unearthing it.

I am a total newbie, but have real respect of Hexagram 1!

And isn't interesting that the new cast of will he gets his mother's blessings has a similar connotation....of something hidden and protected???

HEXAGRAM 45 LINE 5...

A melon covered with willow leaves.
Hidden lines.
Then it drops down to one from heaven.
