I started painting with oils in 2018 - mainly still life, and landscapes…. I have also done some portraits (from photographs, not life). I have loved painting- it’s been my absolute joy and passion, and I wanted to paint every day 😁 ….. until 3 months ago.
After I struggled mightily with a rose painting, I felt drained and burnt-out, and I just stopped painting- came to a complete stop. I only picked up my brushes once since then, but I have been feeling slight stirrings of a desire to paint something again…
My main issues is that I don’t sell enough paintings - money is tight, and the economy is struggling… especially in South Africa….
So I give lots of paintings away - to charities as fundraisers, to old age homes to pretty up their corridors etc, to friends, family and neighbours……. It costs me quite a bit, because I have all my paintings framed - I feel they are unfinished without their frame….

So I asked the question: How is my art evolving? Where am I going with this?

I received Hexagram 11 - no changing lines..

I am humbled…

Best, Susie

Oh my goodness. That is really beautiful. Do you have a website?

11uc. Hm. Not terribly scrutable (to me) because I have difficulties with unchanging readings. 11 is Flow, but does it mean there can/will be flow, or does the unchangingness mean the flow has nowhere to go?

Still, I think it's an encouraging reading. If it were mine, I'd much rather have 11 than its inverted pair 12, Stagnation/Block. Getting 11 instead of 12 means this is not fundamentally blocked. Flow and Block are the same thing, seen from opposite ends, and Yi's saying you're on the Flow side.

|||::: ..... :::|||
11 ........ 12

Maybe you'll have to figure out how to direct the flow? Somehow establish a place to stand for yourself? Maybe that's why there's no relating hexagram right now, because the greater context for your art, or the possible directions it could move towards (those are some relating-hexagram associations) is open for you. That in itself might be encouraging.

I have no idea how artists do that, though. Do you at all?

Susebells, that's a stunningly beautiful painting. You're an artist whether you're painting daily or not, and whether your works are selling or not. Everyone goes through blocks — can you try a different medium for a bit, maybe collage or something that is less expensive, and let things, uh, flow — see where it takes you? I realize it's hard to get started again, I'm a painter as well and have had a block for months now, so I might be talking to myself. I think 11 UC wants you to let yourself be led right now and stay open. I wish you luck, you are talented and your talent deserves expression!

Thanks for your reply Liselle! I don't know how I missed it! Now, a mere 5 months later, I can report that I changed tack completely - first, went towards and into the abstract (in oils), and from there "flowed" into fluid art, where acrylic paints are make more liquid throught the use of additives, and instead of painted on the canvas, they are poured onto it, and then manipulated by tilting and spinning. It's a wild ride!!! FLOW is exactly what this is :) Of course, I didn't know this when I got the reply, just thought to go with flow...... The oracle is sooo funny !!!

Here's an attached example of my fluid art:

I don't have website - but I have a FB page: Susie Gallie ART and an Instagram profile: susiegallie_art

Thanks so much - it's always good to talk to another artist! Creating art for me has become more important, and way more fulfilling than most other things (definitely watching TV no longer features at all). and the flow literally meant fluid art - which I am immersing myself in at the moment. The circle however always turns - right now I packed my acrylics to one side, and have a lovely black canvas on the easel that I will cover with oil paints - I am eager to use my oils again. So in this case, flow could also mean to flow back and forth, from one medium and style, to the other. Quite exciting!!
