Hello,

Does anyone have personal experience with Hexagram 36.1.3.6 changing into 23? I can find surprisingly little information about this particular reading when I use the "Hexagram Search" feature on this site. In the past week or two a variety of unsettling events have occurred in my life. I seem to encounter some type of peculiar adversity each time I step out the door. For example, yesterday I went to my usual car wash location and the cashier overcharged my debit card. I politely brought this to her attention and she looked downward, acted like the math didn't make sense to her, shuffled her feet. Basically, she was just waiting for me to go away. I almost did but something made me hold my ground even though only a small amount of money was involved. Finally I suggested that she refund me the money in cash and she grudgingly did so. The car cleaning crew washed my car with remarkable speed and I tipped them as I always do. On the way home I noticed that someone had taken a few inexpensive items from my car. What makes this experience so strange is that I've always had a good rapport with the staff at that establishment.

Lately it seems like the Universe is guiding me to break old habits, recalibrate friendships, stay away from usual spots. This incident occurred last Saturday at one of my usual haunts: http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?21021-8-2-3-gt-48-Warning-to-Stay-Away

Don't want to ramble too long but I'm starting to wonder if the Universe wants me to stay in isolation for some reason (?) Another example, if I may.. I volunteer for a hospice organization. Last night the daughter of my patient asked me to cancel my weekly visit which should have occurred today. Even my supervisor seemed kind of surprised by this. Is the Universe trying to compel me to stay home?

This afternoon I felt more peaceful than usual. I asked the I Ching for general guidance for the day and, as mentioned above, received Hexagram 36.1.3.6 into 23 in response. The reading seems to warn of dark forces looming and the changing lines look rather contradictory (?) Any insight into this reading will be very much appreciated. Also, I would love to hear about anyone else's experience with this particular reading. Thanks so much for reading this. I really do appreciate the thoughtful, helpful responses that I receive on this forum.

Oh, such a drama queen you are :)
You definitely can manifest them if you want to, but no, they have better things to do :)

The message is: You can't control everything. Some things just happen, there will always be surprises, follow along.
The advice comes from h15: be more humble and centred, don't hide in the house - participate; defend yourself but not to the bitter end.
Line 6 is almost always a warning: Too much power/ambition/control will lead to injury.

36.1 Legge: Wherever he goes, the people there may speak (derisively of him).
Sometimes you will encounter obstacles and negativity from people.

15.3 Richmond: The superior man of established merit brings things to conclusion. Good fortune.

Acting out of modesty is allowing action to take place, like unfolding something that is already there rather than thinking that our acts create. This action completes itself and leaves no karma, no part of it attached to the personal self.

Just witness it, letting the negativity to bounce off. Take some corrective measures (like you did with the cashier), but not too much.

2.6 Richmond: Dragons fight in the wilderness. Their blood is black and yellow.
If you had returned to the carwash and tried to speak with the boss about missing things it would probably not end well.

I'd do a double check in the car for the small items.

Sure, someone could have pocketed them but,
Every car wash I've been too moves the small loose objects to one of a few places:
The glove compartment, the compartment under the drivers right elbow (which can have compartments within),
In a nook built into the door, or lastly (and generally least likely) the pawn shop where a petty thief would trade them for cash.

Thank you very much for your responses, Ashteroid and Moss Elk. Guess I was feeling a bit persecuted yesterday with my talk of dark forces ;)

"36.1 Legge: Wherever he goes, the people there may speak (derisively of him).

The above quotation seems very pertinent. That has been happening a lot lately. I think I come off as very timid and shy when people meet me. Recently I had a different reading in which the Wilhem/Baynes version of the I Ching warned me against behaving like an "obsequious office hunter" (Hexagram 8.2.) Basically, because of my demeanor people often think they can take advantage of me. When I take issue with them I have a longstanding habit of overreacting rather than just settling the matter at hand.

These quotations make perfect sense too. Right from the moment I took issue with the cashier I had a feeling that her boss may be telling her to overcharge people by small amounts. That's why she was so reticent to refund me the difference. Another employee at that car wash has told me in recent years that their business is way down.

Moss Elk, the missing items were of extremely little value - not even worthy of a pawn shop. At the time I had the feeling that they were purposely taken because I had made an issue with the cashier over the money. Maybe they will resurface in an unlikely spot but I am just about positive that they are gone.

Thank you again for your responses. I really appreciate them. Guess I don't need to stay home - I should just expect some negativity and be prepared to deal with it in a moderate, reasonable manner.

Hello,

Thought I would give a brief update. Originally I had trouble finding many shared readings which involved Hexagram 36.1.3.6 changing into 23. That seemed odd and increased my sense of foreboding. Initially I thought the reading was warning me to stay home and not interact with dark forces. As it turned out it didn't really matter whether I stayed home or not. I think the dark forces were inside my own head. For a long time I have had the habit of ruminating upon the past and thinking vengeful thoughts about those who have "wronged" me. Needless to say, this tendency interferes with both my mindfulness and appreciation of the present moment.

The day after receiving Hexagram 36>23 I was using a hand mirror and plucking my eyebrows in front of a kitchen window where sunlight is strongest. My mind was running rampant with uncharitable thoughts. After finishing I somehow managed to drop the mirror (made of plastic and glass, about 10 inches long) through an extremely narrow opening between the screen and kitchen window. For a moment the mirror seemed to hover on the ledge in front of my window and then it just fell backward over the edge, dropping 10 stories toward the sidewalk below. I fell to my knees and started praying that it would not hit anybody because I live in a densely populated urban area. A sidewalk café with tables, chairs, umbrellas, people lies almost directly beneath my window. I never heard the mirror make impact, never heard any commotion below but I prayed for a very long time. Needless to say, an object dropping from ten stories in height has the capacity to cause grave injury. Fortunately - and I thank every almighty power in existence - no one was hurt.

Although this may sound farfetched to some I think that the Universe was sending me a warning that mirrored the one in Hexagram 36>23: I need to shut the door on the past and focus on the present without distraction. For decades I did involve myself with dark forces (consorting with extremely violent people) but I have spent most of the past few years in solitude. I feel that things will keep improving for me as long as I stay in the present moment and stop revisiting the past.

No idea if any of this will be helpful to anyone but I know that I will be especially mindful if I ever personally encounter Hexagram 36>23 again.

I thought you would say - well everyone makes mistakes, now I'm the 'bad guy' dropping stuff from 10th floor :)

But yeah, stop dwelling in the past, be here and now. That is spiritual growth indeed.
And yes this was a sign from your ever-loving and all-knowing sub/super-conscious. It can control your body and do some nasty stuff like hurting a toe or a finger a little bit to grab your attention.
