Did not find any record of this reading in the index, so I thought I'd add to the site.

So my question was:

Any advice to me on X?

5.1.5.6 -> 16

5 shows a situation of waiting. Having the courage to face things as they are, to overcome danger. To tame one's own weakness and impatience. To overcome self-deception and illusions. And the need to make some kind of transition or change in doing all this.

"it furthers one to cross the great water"

So is it that in waiting you ARE crossing the water? Because usually if your waiting, sitting down to food and drink, you are not busy crossing any great water.

Line 1: No pressing matters yet, just mind your own business, don't waste your time.
Line 5: Enjoy the moment, with the confidence of certainty in your cause.
Line 6: The situation deteriorates, but help arrives, allow the help and danger will be overcome. Happy events are often shocking.

Hexagram 18.

The nasty one. Ancestral karma, sins of the mothers and fathers to be resolved in the children. Neglect, banality, corruption, decay. But not without the optimism of the ability to improve things.


So what would you all say here? The hexagram 18 situation is to be resolved in waiting? How to you cross a water while your waiting? Perhaps this waiting is a crossing of the water itself? Crossing a period of time? Perhaps one is waiting to address the hexagram 18 situation here but as of now there is nothing yet to do?

The waiting in 5 (my view) is of troops on the border waiting for an attack by barbarians, in your case those who do not share your values.

Line 1: Even though your position is remote, stay the course.
Line 5: You have the means to continue.
Line 6: Reinforcements arrive in time of trouble.

Hexagram 18: You have inherited negative influences that need correction. A Fall of the House of Usher situation. The protagonist escapes the fall of the schizoid house.

In sum, don't be judgmental but prepare for your moves so that you don't lack the resources to carry through at a critical moment.

I very much agree with pocossin. Hexagram 5 means waiting and hexagram 18 means something is rotten and needs correcting or cleaning. Therefore, you just have to wait and see until the critical moment comes.
