Hi,

I received an offer to get a permanent position today. However, it is a completely different job than what I am doing right now. It's more far from where I live also. But it's the same salary. I'm thorn apart because I love my job right now and the people I work with, but there is probably no way I will ever get a permanency there. I feel I need to accept the offer and that I can't turn it down, but I'm afraid I won't like it as much as I love my job right now and I won't like the people as much as I love my colleagues right now. If it would have been me, I would have stayed there forever. But I'm under a contract and they don't want to get permanent people. I know there are going to offer some permanency in my team, but I don't think I have a chance to get it since I've only been working there since September 2008. Then again, I don't know what their criteria are when it comes to them giving the permanency. I know I would get called back after the end of my contract, but I could get layed off at anytime and they did in the past quite often. I don't feel I can take the risk, but... I'm really thorn apart by this. I'm happy and sad at the same time because I don't want to go. So...

The question:
Should I accept the offer to get a permanent position?

The answer:
First hexagram: 9
Second hexagram: 22
Chaning line(s): 2 - 5

9.2 talks about being drawn into returning and 9.5 talks about being honest and sincere, so I'm wondering if you've considered presenting the situation to your current employer, much as you've done here. Maybe they can give you some insight into your chances of going permanent there that will make your decision easier.

The problem is my Team Leader is on vacation until September and I need to give an answer before next Tuesday. Well, I'm working for the Government. In the e-mail I received, it doesn't state when it starts or if they are going to hire soon. It just asks me if I'm interested in a permanent position, it says where and it asks me to give some more information about me. It might happen only in a few weeks or even few months. It's always a long process in the Government. I guess I could say yes and see what the next step is when they contact me again. I guess I could say yes and hope that in the meantime, I'll be able to talk to my Team Leader and they'll offer me a permanent job where I work now.

Adornment

H22 is Adorning; "making the outward appearance reflect the inner worth, beautifying"

And I must admit that the connection with H22 and your situation is not obvious.

But I would proceed with pursuing the other job. And I would relate this to the reading as follows:

If I am an employer, then I value my employees. If one of them has a possibility of leaving for another job, I might view them as more valuable and make more efforts to keep them, or help them get a permanent job. Their value has become "embellished" or adorned, even though they are the same person.

So you can accumulate small things to do something great (H9). You can pursue this other situation, at least take the next step. Line 2 indicates that you may not be able to succeed at this time, and may be drawn back, but you can communicate honestly and sincerely with your employers when possible (Line 5) and admit you are strongly drawn to staying but need a permanent job.

Perhaps you will adorn yourself in this manner and become more beautiful to your current employer.

Should I accept the offer to get a permanent position? 9.2,5 > 22

Perhaps it would be wise to fill in the form and wait and see what happens next because you are not obligated to accept that particular job in say 2 months time, if you don't want to do it then no problem. but it's always good to have something to fall back on if your current position does not get renewed.

Thanks for your answers!

I agree with both of you. Right now, like I said, I accepted it. Nothing's official, nothing's sign. I was just asked if I would be interested in getting a permanent position there. It says nothing else. I could still change my mind or get a better offer in the meantime.

My Team Leader has no power whatsoever in terms of who's staying or who gets a permanent position. There are people above her. But I know she thinks I'm a really good employee. She tells me all the time and she always gives me the harder stuff to do because she knows I can do it and I will do it well. I wish she would be here and she could do something or talk to the superiors above her, but she's on vacation for a month. I just hope I will be able to talk to her before I hear from the other job again and something comes up.

I guess, right now, the best thing to do is wait for them to contact me again.
Thanks again for your answers. It helps me a lot to think it through. :)
