Hello,
I am a student going through some difficult times with my classes and even considering switching majors. However, I am hesitant to switch because I'm so close to finishing.

I asked the I-Ching "should I stick to chemical engineering?" and received 9.4...
I will greatly appreciate any insight.

Thank You.

A Struggling student.

Should I stick to chemical engineering?
9.4 > 1

Wilhelm:
Six in the fourth place means:
If you are sincere, blood vanishes and fear gives way.
No blame.

Bradford:
Be true
The bleeding stops, anxiety leaves
No harm is done

Hilary:
There is truth and confidence.
Blood departs, fear goes away.

Coming to a decision will resolve the stress you are under. What you should do should accord with your inner nature. Your choice is a fundamental decision that will alter the course of your life. I think you are a sensitive, contemplative guy in a calculative field. If it is possible that chemical engineering will engage your creative energies and enable you to put more into life, then I think you should stick with it. Otherwise, change majors.

There are many stressors in life. If non-academic issues are causing your difficult times with classes, then you might pause your academic career and deal with them. A person can handle only so much at one time. If the problem is solely academic, you should discuss your problem with an academic adviser. Chemical engineering is math intensive. To reduce the problem to one variable -- if you are confident that you can handle the math in advanced classes, I think you should stay the course.

Good luck,
Tom

Hi lookingfortruth,

The background of the situation, Hexagram 1 shows intense creative energy at work. The power of the creative. That's a lot of power - much is going on, and not necessarily easy.

Hexagram 9 is about waiting for a break in the weather. Waiting for the rain (or grace) to fall and release the tension. Also, I see it as the "chop wood, carry water" hexagram. The minute details that must be attended to so that the promised grace can be worked with when it mercifully arrives!

Line 4 talks about having truth and confidence. You're so close to finishing, and it seems at this late stage you're parched, exhausted, and don't even notice any clouds coming in! If this were my reading, I'd pay attention to the "have truth and confidence" portion. If you do, the frustration will depart (blood & fear), and you'll have what you've been working for all these years. KNOW you can do it, and try to smile! :)
