I'd love to discuss this pair. Within the context that the progress in this hexagram is dependent on partnership with another (master/servant, husband/wife, artist/businessman, etc./etc.), how is 36 relative?

I ask because I just got a rash of 36s in a conversation with the Yi about changes in my feelings. It's not just "things" that are losing their allure for me, but certain people as well...and they answered 30 to 36, 11 to 36 and 36 to 15.

I look forward to seeing your thoughts on this pair.

Love,

I don't like the term "loss of allure" for what's happening inside me. I should amend that to say that time has faded the colors of the image they created for me...I created of them...whatever.

I think "darkening of the light" might literally explain it. I simply forget.

That's why I want to understand this pair better.

Thanks.

hi val. sorry, i only have questions too.

how much of 36 is about wounding? how much is about what you have to do to survive a dark time?

lines 1 and 6 seem so dismal. line 1, what a mystery. "he lowers his wings. TSM does not eat for three days on his wanderings, but he has somewhere to go. the host has occasion to gossip about him" what the hell IS that? why does the host have occasion to gossip about him? does TSM seem crazy cause he had a vision or something?

line 4 , one gets to the belly of the beast, and just leaves. a force one does not fight or try to conquer. behold it, for what it is. then go. lotta wisdom in that. line 4 sounds like an alchemy line. there seems to be a cohesive narrative in the changing lines, almost like a fairy tale.

but 6 is a warning about the limits of this entire experience. there is an expression, to catch an ant, close up all the holes except one. or is line 6 the triumphant cry of the one who has perservered thru the changes of 36? one who then sees the force of line 4 extinguish itself.

is this, to some degree the lesson of 36? the integration of inner light with outer circumstances? that a person who has inner light will get the help they need? line 2?

im just reading out of the w/b at this moment, so dont have another commentary on this hex with me. also didnt talk about the other lines cause this is enough for now.

Ruling lines...

Per WB Line 2 & 5 are those injured but persevere, line 1 goes into hiding to escape injury, line 3 overthrows the persecutor, line 4 escapes injury by removing itself from the scene, and line 6 is Zhou Hsin, the one who inflicts the injury.

The ruling lines are 2 and 5.

Why isn't line 3 the ruler? From what I gather then, the ruling lines epitomize the hexagram rather than provide the key for overcoming the situation. Or maybe it depends on one's capabilities given the circumstance??

If one is fortunate enough to be able to unseat the tyrant as Wu Wang was that's the exception. Otherwise, instruction on how to persevere under the conditions are given?

Am I getting this right???

Hi Tash and Deb,

I suspect you both are getting it right. I had second thoughts after I posted that because of what I am feeling...it's not 36 at all. It's not a darkening of the light at all. It's more like a fading of images, colors...so that the canvas is gradually becoming white again. But because the Yi answered with 36, I want to understand even more.

So I think I'm going to open a thread in the Friends area. If you think you can help me understand, I'd love to hear from you over there as well.

Love,

Val
