Hello everyone, I have been away on a really long hiatus. Things were rough, but gradually improving. I hope everyone's doing great here, cooking the fine things in their Caldrons :stir:

The last few years have in very certain terms helped me realize how fleeting material happiness can be. But even subtle happiness is easier spoken about than achieved, especially when the mind feels oppressed while having bread (no meat, only veg :)) and drink.

Today I asked the Yi, I want to be genuinely happy, how can I achieve it ? and received 50.3.6->40.

I am reading 50 as 'there is potential, cook up something nice'

LiSe says about the 3rd changing line

Before one can start to accomplish something big, there has to be order in one’s life. From out a mess, neglect, faults or lack of oversight, only a disaster can ensue. First of all, look around you and mend what has to be mended. Examine your intuition, your plans, your tools, the cooperation you can expect and the quality of your helpers.

My life is in a total mess, so getting organized, cleaning up, understanding who are the people I can depend on, figuring out what I really want to achieve, are all very important things that should be done to be happy.

LiSe says about the 6th changing line

Spiritual inspiration is one of the greatest things that can happen to you. It makes every aspect of your life shining, from health to relations, work, appearance, creativity, happiness. Treat it with great reverence, keep it clean and far from anything, which pulls it down. It is healing and holy.

Bradford mentions being like a sensitive and sensible sage. He mentions alignment with timeless things and using things of a finer ingredient. I also read self respect in his explanation.

All this makes so much sense to me.

I think the Yi is advising me to get my life in order, understand who my allies are and possibly who are my foes. To understand the joy that spirituality can give and to be discriminating about what I do, use, the people I associate with, the joys I try to find. To be sensitive but also sensible (with common sense).

I am reading the relating hexagram 'Deliverance' as the quest I am on. Deliverance from an unhappy state of being.

I wonder if line 3 may be saying don't be surprised if your attention turns away from the needs of others at this time because it is necessary for your energies to be directed inward to your own life and needs in order to effect any lasting change. If you are the kind of person who always tries to put others before yourself, (and I have no idea at all if this is true of you or not) this may be the time to curb some of those tendencies, especially if they have been a means of avoiding one's own issues. (ask me how I know that... lol)

Getting the right handle on the problem is key to 50.3. A lot of people mistake happiness as something to pursue, rather than a sign that you are on a good path, a byproduct, if you will, of a better way of living.

Letting go of the past, forgiveness and freedom from resentment, is an important part of 40.
Also letting go of what isn't necessary to carry around with you, i.e. simplifying and being grateful for what you have.

Hi Bradford,

This is so true. Something which I learned the really really hard way, but am still learning how to practice it. It is also a beautiful coincidence that you should say this because I just asked the Yi about the path I am on :)

I am at a point where I still hold on to some resentments. Letting go of these and all the extra baggage is going to be an important part of being light and happy. Thanks for the great advise. :bows:

Yes, I think it's so important to be aware that after a really intense period when we have been running on empty, perhaps for a long time, it is absolutely necessary to take the time to be on your own and to economize on energy in order to nourish ourselves. This is very much part of many spiritual paths where all activity is delayed in favour of re-organising the inner life and the fragmented psyche. Healing the emotions is a prerequisite. So, often we throw ourselves into all kinds of well-intentioned action as a way to escape that process and before the psyche has had a chance to heal, usually with less than satisfactory results.

So, I think 50.3.6 could give a snapshot of your spiritual life right now and line 6 could be the ultimate culmination borne from that suffering?

ragini ~

what an amazing question. right to the heart.

working from a different text, i find my answer is too long to fit here
so i have posted it on my site:

http://www.thetolteciching.com/blog/divination-how-can-i-be-genuinely-happy/

perhaps it will add in some small measure to your quest.

Hi hsin,

Thank you so much for such a detailed post. Ummm I am a bit confused. Your post mentions 4.3.6->44 while my reading was 50.3.6->40. Did you cast another reading to further bring out the meaning ?

hi ragini,

as i mentioned, the Toltec I Ching is a different text. it uses a different sequence of the hexagrams, so the numbers are different. but if you look at the hexagrams themselves, you'll see, i think, that they are the same ones that you received from the Oracle (fire over wind with 3rd & 6th changing to thunder over water).

this is the reading, in other words, for the hexagrams of your divination.

all the best

Hi hsin,

I re-read your post and now I understand that it refers to the same hexagrams. Thank you for such a beautiful reading.

It is very relevant, especially the part which refers to the fact that I am indeed very sensitive and the way to preserve that sensitivity through strength and giving up of baser desires towards higher ones. Integrating both loving kindness and firmness feels like the correct way to retain my sensitivity and good intentions. Walking the path of wisdom and the spirit warrior also feels like the right path to walk on.

There is so much more in the reading and I am still digesting all of it. :bows:
