Okay, without using a concordance, answer the quiz question: how many stags are there in the Yi?

Karcher cracks me up sometimes. For 'stag' (lu4), he says 'mature male deer with horns' lol. Well, what else might a stag be? lol A party for a soon-to-be-married young man? Not in China.

I wonder how Karcher renders 'dog'. 'lovable domesticated carnivore with a bark, wagging tail, and a fondness for table scraps' lol.

Hi Dobro,
Glad to see you are feeling all better. This is a trick question, as any first course in Zen would teach--there are no animals of any kind in the Yi, it is a book with only words and graphics not living, hungry beasts who could not live in your bookshelf for decades let alone centuries.

Or in the alternative--what is the range of meanings translated to the character Lu4? Or how do any of these relate to the commentary upon the hexagrams? In the thread on hex 56.5 it turned out the pheasant which some were salivating over as a tasty dinner could more plausibly be considered just a meditation upon the trigram Li and the hijinx of getting overly involved in the graphics narrative of its moving central Yin line...

Besides 03.3?
Is venison one of the three kinds of game in 57.4?

If this stag has disappeared into the woods, perhaps there are none.

Where else would the stags be but in the woods? Unless it's Doe Night down at the pub.
