hi everyone,

reflexion here. how do you read and interpret the changing lines? new to the i ching btw. is it as simple as saying if i get 3 changing lines that means "past, present, and future"?

i did a reading yesterday and got 3 changing lines and i don't know how to read them, or how to interpret them.

the lines are sooooooo different in what they say....how do i know what to believe and go with? i'm thinking of pursuing a job in hearing aids and got the following

hexagram 50 (6-1, 6-5, 9-4) changing into hexagram 9

my question was

please show me if i should pursue a job with debra?

anyone with experience out there with changing lines?

thanx

Changing Lines

It's rather simple really, there's only 100 steps to understanding how to read changing lines.

1. Make a friend with an Elf or Gnome in the astral plane, and make sure you speak their language first, because they hate it when no one speaks their language and attempts to communicate with them in any way. Also, keep in mind, while befriending an Elf, that they usually are very old and don't like to be reminded of the fact even if they still appear 20 at age 1,345. When dealing with gnomes, keep in mind that they like to eat a lot, and smell really bad. So, don't attempt to cough or sneeze or in any other way reveal that you are completely repulsed by their foul stench while in their presence.

I'll write more on step 1 later.. there's practically a whole book about step 1.. then I'll get on with step 2-100. This is a long path we're about to embark upon my friend... long path.. yes.

As for your reading, I recommend rephrasing the question if you get an unclear answer, otherwise you have to wait to learn step 1-100 and it may take me a while to type just step 1 and by halfway through I may have to stop due to carpal tunnel syndrome.

Off the top of my head, it appears your reading is telling you yes, but you may not be as successful as you want/assume.

1. If there are 2 moving lines, 1 yin and 1 yang, pay attention to only the yin.
2. If both are yin or both yang, pay attention to the lower one.
3. If 3 movign lines, pay attention to middle one.
4. If 4, pay attention to top 2.
5. If 5, pay attention to only the unmoving line.
6. If all moving, ignore the first hexagram and pay attention only to the second.

That's 1 way to do it.

Another way is to ignore lines and only read the hexagrams, the first being the situation as it is, and the second being the situation as it will be.

There are many approaches to multiple changing lines. you can do a forum search above to find threads with that title. There is no one way t do it all the time.

1. each line can be read separately as different aspects of your reading.
50.1, opportunity for making a clean sweep, to start over..
50.4 Are you prepared for this? taking on too much, or taking on what you are not capable of, could be disastrous.
and 50.5 but you are open to hearing the truth and with cooperation, it could work out well .
9 - a little restraint before jumping in....pay attention to your premonitions...collect all the info you need before you decide, and don't overlook warning signs; take it all in, accumulate the small details; there may be many little details that need to be sorted out, don't be afraid to discuss the specifics, ask questions, be flexible and willing to learn.

2) a second way is to ignore the many lines, as proph says, and just look overall at 50 and 9: 50 seems a good opportunity, chance to make money; but 9 cautions you to explore the details before deciding, be open and adapting to what you will need to learn, and attentive to what will be required of you. the devil could be in the details and there may be something you need to really pay attention to.

3. There is somethig called the steps of change.
50.1 changes to 14.4 change to 18.5 change to 9.
In this method, the 50.1 could mean you are completely starting over, dumping out the pot of your current career experience and beginning again;
14.4 says do not pretend to know too much; it's a good position but you will need to learn and let others show you;
18.5 could imply that you will be taking on/ "inheriting" some long standing problems, but you are probably in a position to do this well and may win support for doing so;
9 - once agan, use some restraint and watch the small details. to me this would mean sitting down with the person you'll be working for and getting clear on what they need and what you will be doing

I think all reading methods actually produce the same advice;)
