A couple of days ago I had a job interview.

I would get to work as the assistant of a man I dealt with in my current job in the past. He always came across as a demanding, driven man and working as his direct assistant would certainly be a challenge.

I asked the Yi:
How would it be to work with X? Hex 7.2 ->2

Seems to me that maybe I would be taking a central position in the company, through discipline and strong organizing I would be accepted in my role as his assistant.

But i would like to understand better how this hex would apply to my question, how it would be to work with him.

Any input would be welcome! :bows:

sounds like it will be filled with action and responsibility.

either he gives you lots of responsibility or he repeats himself alot ;)

7 and 2 sound like good dancing partners.

I think I would like this job

This keeps getting better :D
A couple of days ago i posted another tread on this forum regarding this job... With similar positive feedback:

I think who ever works for this man would be expected to preform like the king's soldier. He will give orders and you would be the boots-on-the-ground sargent making it all happen.

2. Requires loyalty, dedication and complete faith in the one you are Receptive to.
It makes me think that if his instructions are clear he would be a good man to work for, but he's the sort to make a lot of confusing demands and you would need to learn what to respond to and what to ignore.
People tend to think of 2. The Receptive as describing a situation where one can unquestioningly follow any and all orders like a willing mare. If you read the individual lines however, only 2.5 is about responding and then only to a really good idea. The other lines all give advice about how to avoid getting involved.

You are correct there is only one changing line in this reading, 7.2.

MyLadyThunder did not ask "How would it be FOR ME to be work with X?" but the more general question, "How would it be to work with X?"

So 7.2 > 2 reads to me that working successfully with this man would REQUIRE it being an almost perfect fit - it doesn't read to me, because of the way she phrased the question, as promising it would indeed BE a perfect fit.

Actually, I see 7.2 > 2 almost as a warning - that if she is going to work for this man she should know it's going to require the faith, loyalty and devotion of a totally trusting work horse.

I went on to talk about the individual lines in hexagram 2. to make my point that receiving this hexagram, although titled The Receptive, does not necessarily mean that a person ought to open themselves up and be receptive to whatever suggestions outside forces may try to impose. Rather it gives guidance as to how to behave when in a position where one does not have the initiative and must make their will manifest by carefully considering which orders to respond to and which to ignore.

Thus I am saying that while 7.2 suggests that it is possible to successfully do this job, it does not mean success will come if the person will only be Receptive and follow whatever the boss may order. The success of hexagram 2 also requires knowing
2.1 How not to be too quick to respond.
2.2 How not to promise to do more than humanly possible.
2.3 How not to make suggestions but just do as instructed.
2.4 How, when the work day is done, to go home and turn off the answering machine.
2.5 How, when asked to do something that is within the job description, to do it and do it well.
2.6 And finally, how, if one doesn't care for how the boss runs things, to just let it go. How to avoid trying to fight city hall.

So I'm saying that while 7.2 > 2 appears to be a positive oracle for working with this man, it is positive for the right person. It is positive for the person who believes in this man and what he's trying to accomplish and for the person who knows the lessons of hexagram 2, what to be Receptive to and what to ignore. If a person does not feel they could be happy working in such circumstances then 7.2 -2 could actually be a heads up that this job is not so suitable after all.

The only way that you can get this job is if the person who is hiring believes that you can appeal to the rest of the company. Otherwise, I think it is every difficult to get this job. 7 is not a peaceful gua; it is about war and multitudes and with the earth over the water it is very hard to find any harmony. As in anything to do with war, there is conflict and instability where military virtue may result in honors. However, overall, war and getting a job are generally at odds with each other. Moreover, 2, as good as this gua is, is really about maintaining your present position rather than going elsewhere. It is a sign of delay and not a sign of getting a job soon.

Moreover, I am not as sanguine about your previous reading 1-4.5 to 26. Gua 1 when it comes to a job requires a step-by-step approach and great caution. It is good for promotion within a company, but not necessarily that easy to move into another position in another company. Moreover, 26 suggests stopping before being able to initiate action. Hence, while it is a generally good hexagram, it indicates, like 2, that change will take time, a time that may be longer than the filling of the job would require.

I haven't spoken with the manager himself yet. No matter how promising this job sounds, I think the decisive factor for me here is to meet the man in person. I do feel thrilled about the possibilities of this job, but
I do not intend to make a decision over night. The warning I read from your interpretation Icastes, does reflect my doubts about this job. Also, I have to consider the fact that I am not completely happy in my current job, but this situation has already reached it's anticlimax and hopefully, with some patience on my part, things will turn out for the better. I don't want to let my current negative working situation
influence my judgement about this job offer/ negotiation. Thanks Icastes, your take on this reading really put me back with my feet on the ground, where they belong :bows:

Hmmm, I wouldn't be a very good unquestioning soldier i'm afraid... Something to consider.
