Hi Everyone,

My question: Should I back out of this move?
Answer: 40.4.5.6 - 59

ed. I also asked:
What I need to know about moving to X (the move I'm making but worried about)
Answer: 35.5.6 - 45

I'm about to move someplace far away, somewhat isolated, and completely unfamiliar. I'm having major second thoughts. The trouble is, I'm pretty far along in the moving process and getting out of it this late in the game could result in some undesirable consequences... but I fear the consequences will be far greater if I continue with this move.
No matter what, I have to move, but the alternative would be someplace more familiar.

Thank you,

Hello,

I think both readings indicate there's no need to worry, feel free to move, if there are problems you can handle them.

Thank you marybluesky for replying to me.

I am currently going through with the move, and I don't feel like I've made the right decision. In fact, I feel like I know I have not.

I cast a few readings tonight:

What do I need to do next about my life: 31.5 -- 62
What should I know about -- move: 17.1.3.5 -- 62
Did I make a big mistake: 13 unchanging
Should I stop this move and rent in -- instead: 16 unchanging

MHolden, I have a question if you don’t mind. It seems like you are far along in this move. Can I (we) assume that you put some thought into this and perhaps at some point you thought it was a good and desirable thing to do? Or was this more a spur of the moment decision, and maybe more emotional? Or ...?

Hi dfreed,
I am far along in the move, at one point I did think it was a good thing to do (affordable, amenities, relatively close to currently distant family, etc). However, I always had reservations about moving to this particular town, and the actual decision of buying property there was somewhat spur of the moment, based on how nice the property was for the price, and after months and months of looking all over the place and not having any luck.

My question: Should I back out of this move?
Answer: 40.4.5.6 - 59
Here are some things I'm getting from this response:

40.4.5.6: I often think of the upper three lines as being in the realm of action and doing (where the lower three are more inward, about planning and preparing): the upper trigram is Thunder - which can be about taking decisive action; but with the three moving lines, perhaps now that you are actually ready to move (or are moving), all of a sudden doubts and fears are creeping in - maybe permeating your thoughts; "oh no, am I making the wrong move ...?"

The top line - which you might consider the culmination of this move - reads: 40.6 - 'when a duke shot a hawk from atop a city wall, and got it ... unfavorable for nothing'.

Could this then be about the act of moving, or the culmination of your move: In ancient times, I could imagine that shooting a hawk from atop a wall might be seen as a bad sign, or omen of danger, but here we are told this action - this move - is, 'unfavorable for nothing'.

The resulting Hexagram 59 has the trigrams Wind above, Moving Water below. The Hexagram image I imagine is that of a gentle wind above a river, picking up bits of water, mist and gently carrying them away. So perhaps this is suggesting a different attitude towards your move: that going with the flow (water below), then allows you to gently explore and learn about your new environment - new place, new home (as wind would do).

Water is also about going in one direction - perhaps to the 'one place' where you are moving; but now within this one move you have the chance to gently explore - as wind might - in different directions. You're move then becomes multi-dimensional.

So maybe despite all your fears (and I am sure, just like any big move, there will be good and bad aspects to it) a better attitude to have is one of inquisitiveness and exploration.

As the hexagram text for 59 says, 'favorable for fording a big river'.

Something to consider.

Best, D

Thank you, D -- I have finally arrived to the destination and unfortunately, I do not like the area at all. It doesn't even feel safe. However, as you've already guessed, I'm very far along in the moving process and backing out now has its own set of problems. The reading you responded to, however, was about backing out of the move I was already committing to (and moving somewhere else instead). Yet, I do understand what you mean, regarding that it's not addressing my question and is instead telling me how to approach this move.

I cast a few new readings; no matter what I have to make a decision imminently.

Image of committing to move (to undesirable place) 40.1 - 54
Image of pulling out of move (and find someplace else) 61.3.4 - 1
Will I find another place to live 64.2 - 35
Leaving undesirable place 31.2.6 - 44

To update, it's now August and I really haven't had any other option but to stay put in this new place.
While I like the actual place/neighborhood I'm living in and there's a great deal of natural beauty here, unfortunately I've faced a couple notable misfortunes that have already swung my way as a result of living here, not to mention the general scarcity of local job opportunities/social life.
In the mean time, hoping and looking for another way out in the relatively near future, but I think my hands are tied at the moment.
