Is it even worth applying to NYU?

Because it is an extremely competitive University I wonder if it is even worth the application fee and all the work of doing the application, portfolio etc. I wonder if its smarter to apply to "safety" schools.
My husband is applying to PhD's for Fall 2024 and NYU has a great program in his field. He said he will apply. Deadline is December 1st. I am not trying to be a negative Nancy but I told him not to get his hopes up. I asked the I Ching Is it Worth Applying?

I got: Hexagram 10, changing lines 6 to 58

My interpretation is that 10 indicates being cautious. Line 6 is very auscipicious . Even though this line is generally positive I feel likes it saying with continued effort things will work out fine. Maybe NYU isn't his destiny. We don't think he will get accepted but we will regret it, if we don't apply.
Changing hexagram is 58, and this makes me think we should try to be more encouraging.
Any thoughts?

Stepping on a tiger's tail is a risky situation, but the text of the Judgement indicates that the undertaking is worth the risk.

In Alfred Huang's translation this hexagram is called Fullfilment
H10 <> H58 then becomes: Fullfilment through Joy or Joyful fullfilment.

The text of the 6th line says:

Examine your conduct and consider whether its effects are
favorable.
When everything is fulfilled, supreme good fortune.

The question is for whom this text is meant, for you or for your husband?

Trigram Heaven turns into Lake by the moving line at the 6th position. This is about someone from the sidelines trying to control or influence the situation. Trigram Lake advises positive engagement and support.
Personally, I would see this answer as an encouragement for your husband to apply and for you to support him in it in a positive way.

I definitely take this I Ching casiting as a message for me, especially after reading it more closely.
I see this is a huge risk because even if accepted it is in NYC and very expensive to live there, and also what about funding possibilities?, plus, it is extremely competitive and the chances on getting accepted are so small. He has excellent recommendations, graduated with honours twice, but that isn't enough I am afraid.
I am super supportive but also a realist.

Looking from the answer, I don't think finances will be a problem. H10 and H58 consist of trigrams (Heaven and Lake) that deal with money and value. So in the answer, there is an abundance of money (4x). That does not immediately mean that an abundance of money is coming, but rather that money is not an issue in this case.
