Is it possible something I said actually got through to him? (50.2.4.5.6 > 39)

Long-standing conflict in which I feel unheard. Line 4 seems in opposition to the other lines and 39 is a bit mysterious.

Hello,
39 is a bit mysterious to you but your message also
As I like puzzles, I give you my hypothesis, whether this conflict is professional or in another subject.

50.2.4.5.6 – 39: 50 is the cauldron of renewal where we cook the right foods that will serve your processing. Since the I Ching is the great book of transformations.
Each line talks about the facets of what feeds the cauldron of your life :
line 2 is a real relationship,
line 4 evokes a person who turns away from this real relationship,
line 5 still evokes this potential and line 6 is a line that speaks of openness. As a tip to stay confident in life and stay open...

Regarding your enigmatic question about words that might have come to a person's ears, I think the transformation process inherent in hexagram 50 represents a more important situation. Is this relationship with this person real (line 2)? Only you know... In my opinion, these snippets of words are not problematic. The context of 39 (obstacle) represents this conflict that you are talking about.

Chinese tings (vessels) actually had "ears," the loops the carrying rod went through. So it's not surprising you got 50 for a question about someone hearing you!

50's 39, The Vessel Limping or maybe "transformation having difficulties, so turn around and find a better way."

Not sure what to make of the lines. Line 4 does sound problematic, maybe the difficulties that have to be worked through as part of the turnaround in 39? If that line wasn't there - if you'd gotten lines 2, 5, and 6 - the relating hexagram would have been 31, Influence. Add line 4, it becomes Limping.

2, 5, and 6 do sound potentially promising. Line 2 seems to reassure you not to doubt yourself. 5 and 6 say hearing happens - or at least there's that potential at the top of the reading.

But line 4 is part of it, that can't be ignored. Something needs fixing, and if it's not fixed, it'll fail and maybe you won't get to lines 5 and 6 at all. Or maybe it adds a little bit of "sort of" to the whole reading - he's heard you to some degree (good), but he's not quite capable of hearing everything - or not quite yet - or something.

I've also had 50 (unchanging) for an iterative process of improvement, on the subject of washing machines. They decided to make them a different way, change the paradigm (50 follows 49, Radical Change). Computer controlled instead of mechanical, use less water, whatnot. As you might expect this wasn't perfect. I thought the unchanging reading implied the whole hexagram, all the lines, a whole process. (Which might or might not be a valid take.) You got most of the lines, so maybe it's similar.

Maybe ask a positive question about what you really want to do? A question where you are in action...
