I've had my current job for seven years now. It is what I studied for (I'm highly educated), it is not ill paid, the salaries are regular, but... I have stopped enjoying it for quite a while now. It has become boring, I don't feel the challenge, the stimulation and the excitement I used to feel and the atmosphere at work is horrifying: everybody seems satisfied with being stuck in the rut, everyone's become mechanical and uninventive, and I resent seeing myself becoming similar and remaining in that surrounding. I feel stagnating.

Now, I have been thinking a change for a while, but always thought situation might change, I could go on with doing my job properly despite the others, I should be satisfied with the money, etc.
Now I'm offerd another job which would include: creative, stimulating, fast-paced work, cooperating with interesting, new (very important) people in the field which doesn't allow any kind of routine. BUT, the money is not safe. Maybe the salary is not lower than on this one I have at the moment but there is no security in it.

I have asked I ching what would be a smart thing to do and I got 35 > 60.

Lot of changing lines, and I would appreciate any insights you might have.

Thank you very much.

must be 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 changing.

35 is about expansion: your're coming into the full blaze of the attention, in the full lights, lot of important people, lot of networking. That is a process, every situation is a process. You could say that the lines give the preconditions, the bandwwave through which the situation moves in time, initiating with the first line. Depending on the situation the lines strengten or weaken the situation, the ties around the situation.
Another aspact of this situation is, that when into the floodlights, everything is revealed, every negative and positive aspect is enlarged (e.g. think about the press). That is a test of your integrity.
Also, the inner trigram (earth) could be seen as your past, the situation you're in. the fire is about the developments to come, give and take the strengts and weaknesses of the developing situation: Don't be greedy, dont be to ambitious, then line 5 will come from itself, easo come, easy go. Don't be afraid to take some risk, you're in for the work, not for the money.
Much more to be said about it, but that's complicated.

Hi there,

Your question was what would be a 'smart' move - so maybe the I Ching
is stating the obvious by telling you that a 'smart' (prudent, sensible)
move is to stay in your secure position, and not take that other job.

35 speaks about horses running all together towards the same point
(among other things), and the whole thing brings to mind (in this case)
the expression "hold your horses". When there are 5 changes, it shows
that the only 'stable' line of 35, the only line which remains unchanging,
is 3 - and that gives you a strong message: "All are in accord", everyone/
everything agrees.
60 - limit yourself.

Line 3 of 35 also says "A man strives onward, in association with others
whose backing encourages him." Perhaps your friends have also advised
you not to take that step? Or, it might be that in your current job you
have such good backing, that you could look for advance where you are?

When im in a serious dilemma i usually ask 2 questions - what can i
expect if i take path A, and what can i expect if i take path B.

Thank you both for your interpretation.

Hm..no, diamanda, there is no chance for advance where I am now: I'm working as a teacher, no possibility of any kind of promotion in that area.

And my friends have actually advised me to take a chance on the change, because they see how wrung up and unsatisfied I am, but they think I should prepare thoroughly instead of stepping into the unknown. The IC obviously advises not to take the step anyhow...
