Hello again clarity family, first of all thank you for replying to all my questions and trying to help me understand a reading.

I have met an interesting guy, I have no idea if it will develop into a relationship or not, but he did say that in the past he suffered from OCD, it was treated and he is now ok. But his behaviour puzzles me sometimes, and he is ambiguous in his dealings with me. I asked does he have serious mental health issues? The reply is 59.2.6>8. Mmmmm difficult for me to understand. I have a gut feeling that he has worked through them . Please help me understand thank you 🙏 I hope I the question was formulated correctly!!!

my first intuition about the question is that indeed, the answer might be difficult to interpret. it's easier to get a clear reading with an open question than a "binary" one. secondly, it's generally difficult to establish what's meant by "serious mental health issues" without having proper education and hopefully a license. but as he opened up to you about it, the reading might indeed by saying that he's mostly worked through his problems or at least knows how to handle them (line 2) but might be still withdrawing at times (line 6). overall he's seeking "union".

btw, the commentary from Bradford to line 2 almost makes a reference to OCD:

Invoking often has helped him get used to some other perspectives. He still rubs his thing for good luck; his idols are well-fed and shiny. When troubled, he needs but call out to his long-dead savior. He has so much security now, how will the next step be taken?

but what i often find when asking about others is that I Ching simultaneously reflects my own state. maybe you are the one seeking union - 8, but after finding out about the disorder you're at dissolution (of the initial image you had about the guy?) and are going to what supports you (the I Ching and the forum) - as in line 2, and withdraw more to find way out of or avoid possible danger - line 6? quotes and interpretation from Wilhelm. maybe that's a funny way of Yi saying, "well, as it's not about you, you're not really supposed to or can't know the answer, so have two options"? ;)

Thank you so much for giving me your opinion. He has definitely withdrawn from me, and I think we were both looking for union. I am not so sure I can handle someone like him, and indeed we are not psychiatrists and be able to diagnose mental health problems. I know you are not supposed to ask about other people, but I thought the question was generic enough, but I realise that I did ask a yes or no question, and everyone on this forum thinks you should not. I am a little concerned about how I would handle him when he gets in touch again, as I believe he will!

Hello Pepita!

Does he have serious mental health issues? The reply is 59.2.6>8
While I'm not in any place to diagnose, I'll read the cast as his mental issues are being Dispersed (59) and he's reaching a point of inward Union (8)where the conflicting element are integrated into the psyche.59.2: [according to Wilhelm/Baynes]" : At the dissolution he hurries to that which supports him. Remorse disappears." He has been seeking help (maybe still is?) to disperse the danger...
59.6: " He dissolves his blood. Departing, keeping at a distance, going out, is without blame." Blood indicates the harm: "He keeps at a distance from injury."

Sound luck he's indeed healed?
Good Luck!

Thank you for your interpretation marybluesky, I do think he has healed, what I am at a loss to understand is, has he escaped harm or will I escape harm? I find this kind of question gets me every time when casting a reading. I am totally self taught and have been using the I Ching for years!!! ☹️

There is no cure for OCD although there are medications for help in coping with it.

Hi Rosada, thank you for your input.
What I meant is that with the help of therapy and his parents, he can lead an almost normal life. He works, he has had relationships, goes out with his friends, lives by himself and so on...He has not shared with me whether he is on medication or not.

Ah, okay then. From the way you first described him, it read to me as if he had told you he was no longer effected by OCD and I thought that was a bad omen because of course if OCD has yet to have a reliable cure and he says he is cured when he’s not, then he would be intentionally hiding his true condition from you which would be terrible. But now it sounds like he has been up front with you. Still from your reading it seems the IC could be saying that one of the ways he manages the OCD is to avoid pursuing a closer relationship.

I didn’t see that in the reply, but you know that I find interpreting a reading difficult. He told me he has had relationships, but not many.He didn’t tell me if he had mainly casual ones. Yes, I appreciate his honesty, and he is interesting and charming , but i wonder if the I Ching is very subtly warning me, that there is harm ahead, in pursuing a close relationship with him, if I am not careful? Just another take on the answer, not necessarily the right one !

I'm reading 59.2 as meaning he finds he must stay totally focused on what ever he sees as his core support - like needing to stay focused on his work or even focusing on repudiative rituals.

59.6 the sense that all is dissolving, no boundaries, like a boat without a rudder in the middle of the ocean. Perhaps this is why he needs his OCD rituals?

So I'm reading 59.2.6 as describing his mental health issues, "He trys to stay totally focused on the projects directly in front of him (59.2) for fear that if he doesn't he'll be lost at sea like a boat with no rudder in the middle of the ocean (59.6). This affects his ability to bond with others (8) as it is scary to put control of his life in another's hands."

I meant "repeditive rituals", not repudiative. Drat spell check! My edit button doesn't work.

Yes rosada, your interpretation makes more sense then mine, as I think he has not shared everything with me. He does get lonely and he looks for a companion, but perhaps as you say, he cannot truly bond with another. . If I find out more about his mental health I will update this thread, for sure.

Hi Pepita,

I'm not sure if this will be of much value to you but I'll post my experience with this reading here in case it gives you any insight. Last year I became engaged to a man after a whirlwind courtship. Found out later that he had been lying to me and cheating on me the whole time we were together so I cut all ties with him. He began stalking me - car tires slashed, bullet through kitchen window, flyers placed all over my neighborhood which provided both my name/address and identified me as a prostitute (I'm not), the word "whore" scratched repeatedly into the paint of my car, and more.

Of course it's hard to forget this guy with all the crazy stuff going on. Less than a week ago I commented in my journal that some of his tactics are "practically textbook examples of someone with a severe personality disorder." Then I queried the I Ching: "What should I learn from my relationship with X?"

Answer was 59.2.6>8

Upon receiving the reading I felt that I was being advised that I need to focus my energy on those who truly support me (59.2) and avoid anyone who could possibly threaten my loved ones (59.6). In the case of X I definitely had sought union (8) with the wrong person.

Like I said, I don't know if my experience will help you but I find it interesting that we were both querying about people with (potential) personality disorders and received the same reading. Feel free to ask me any questions if I can be of help - best of luck to you.

Wow Galatea, I am so sorry to hear of your terrible experience, and hope you have put it all behind you, and thank you for sharing your take on 59 with me. The person I am interested in has OCD, he told me so from the very beginning, but he manages his condition, as he has had it for a long time, and is able to lead a nearly normal life. My gut feeling is that he wants to bond with someone (8) but because of his compulsions he feels threatened every time he tries to get close to someone.Of course, this does not bode well for the future. However, when we spend time together we get on very well and have a good time, but I think it might not go any further than a good friendship. He has been very honest with me so far, and that has to be commended.

Hi Pepita,

Was just about to go to bed and saw your message. I do hope this relationship brings good things into your life and it's certainly possible that it will. Sorta debating whether or not I want to type this but I guess I will.. the man with whom I was involved last year seemed very honest in the first few months. In fact, he seemed unusually forthcoming about grim aspects of his past. Only later did I learn that he was a compulsive liar.

Do hope you won't take offense to anything I wrote. Best wishes for you and the new relationship. You do seem cautious and I think that's a good thing;)

No Galatea, no offence taken whatsoever, only gratitude for helping me understand hexagram 59 ! I am very cautious by nature and I honestly think it’s not going to get very far with this guy. He keeps his distance and not communicating much. But I have not written him off just yet. I will keep everyone posted if there are any interesting developments.
