I am interested in interpreting the hexagram with only moving line 6. How do you tend to interpret it - like the end of the phase which represents its hexagram and in some sense pass to the next one in a row or like passage to the changing one? For example, could we 23.6 interpret as the end of the phase of Splitting Apart and moving to the next one 24 (Returning)? Or 23.6 means only change to 2 Receptive Power i.e. is step to it? I am a bit confused here. Of course if there was this kind of topic before please direct me.

Here's an ancient thread that I recall being quite captivating

Another way to look at it is to understand if you have line 6 only moving your change patterns are yang 23 and yin 43.

Change patterns are the patterns the change lines make if you make them all yang for yang pattern and yin for yin pattern. You can see then there's always going to be an undercurrent of hexagrams 23 and 43 when you have line 6 alone changing. These are quite drastic hexagrams in a sense aren't they. In 23 you're stripped of what you have, in 43 you declare just who you are. To me these are quite testing hexagrams, I could say climactic hexagrams. It may also be worth considering 23.6 and 43.6 not to interpret a reading but just to get a feel of line 6s.

It seems to me in line 6 the quality of the hexagram comes to either a fulfilment or a falling away. So in 1.6 the Creative is going a bit too far, it's time for that energy to recede. Likewise in 2.6, too much receptivity calls for hard decisions not endless deliberating.

In the the thread I linked to people discuss each line 6 and whether it's as Dobro puts it a 'high point' or and 'end game'. Bear in mind that thread is 13 years old and ideas and people change a lot in that time and many ideas will have been developed.

I also recommend you keep an eye on Hilary's Blog posts since they will often focus on such a theme as line 6s and so on.

I think it's still very interesting to consider each line 6.

53.6 is a beautiful culmination, a leaving behind of knowledge or gifts for others. You see you could say Dobro's thread is his 53.6 gift since he's not around as far as I know but we can still benefit from what he wrote about. I think a few people who contributed to that thread are now dead but we still have their thoughts.

Oh and re this 23 and 24 are a pair, they are the same hexagram reversed. It's important to see them this way, to remember they are the other side of one another not totally separate hexagrams though different of course. Hence you won't understand 42 without also knowing 41.

You could well see 23.6 as the seed that falls to bring the return in 24 and you can also just relate it to hexagram 2.

With 23/24 it's very clear how there is no return without also a falling away and no falling away without a return, they aren't really separate.

There's plenty of stuff on the sequence around, it's one of the wings (she said knowledgably) but I don't tend to dwell on it much.

Here's the results list from using Quick Search with the search term "line 6":
https://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/?s="line+6"
(Quick Search is the magnifying glass on the far right side of the site menu at the top of every page.)

Another thing to try is to use the browser keyboard shortcut Ctrl-F ("find in page") on the blog index page. Doing that with the search term ".6" found this one:

Aha, here's the one I'm looking for:

Found that one just because I thought I remembered it, and used Ctrl-F with search term "dragon" after looking up exactly what the words are in the line.

Here's another Quick Search results list, again with search term ".6" (fortunately Quick Search is much more cooperative with search terms than Xenforo's forum search):
https://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/?s=".6"

And then if you click on the recent "Lost and Found" article from that list, and use Ctrl-F to find exactly where ".6" is hiding in the page, you'll get two little nuggets of information (quoting the article):
  1. "Instead of chasing after your loss, you need to ‘climb the nine hills’. Again, this is pointing to the need for long-term thinking and planning – long enough, maybe, to forge a marital alliance (51.6)."
  2. "...the money and axe gained at 56.4 are lost at 57.6."
In order to understand exactly what Hilary's points are, and whether the two mentions are helpful or not for what you're specifically trying to understand, you'll have to read more of the article. Hilary is very good at hiding interesting things in what looks like the wispiest of little allusions :mischief: .

Google site search is good for searching the public forums. Click here for the results list from using this search term in Google: site:www.onlineclarity.co.uk "line 6" OR "sixth line"

Well if you are doing a reading, if I got 23.6 > 2 I would read 2 as the context. Only if I got 23.1.6 > 24 I would read 24 as the context, or maybe 23 transforming in some way to 24 although with only 2 moving lines there isn't a lot of change energy to be reading hex to hex. So with only 1 or 2 moving lines I would read the energy in the lines.
Now line 23.6 of the hex of "Splitting Apart" or Disintegration - well this is how it ends, how you end up with such a "splitting apart."
In line 6 "A large/great fruit uneaten" describes a person who has a lot to offer, that inferior people have been trying to overthrow rather than listening or receiving. Good people listen to him, and like a chariot or a carriage they provide him with means and support. The inferior people lose their dwelling places and power, are destroyed by their own evil, and their negativity is self-consuming.
This is speaking in the context of 2 "The Receptive", good people following good leaders.
