Moving to a new city: 14.2.4>22 twice

Hello! Hope everyone is having a cozy winter solstice.

I finished my Master's degree last August and have been applying to jobs in my dream city for the past few months. However, in that time I haven't gotten any interviews whatsoever. As this city is on another continent entirely, I suspect that it would be beneficial for me to make the jump and look for a job in my field there (while working in the service industry to pay bills), since it's difficult to do anything from so far away.

So, I asked Yi twice (I know that's frowned upon but I couldn't help it!): What if I moved to 'X' city in February? And for both times, the same response: 14.2.4>22.

I think this is a positive response to my query! And if I got it twice, it must be doubly relevant to my situation.

Wilhelm's translations of the two moving lines are:
Line 2: A big wagon for loading. One may undertake something. No blame.
Line 4: He makes a difference between himself and his neighbour. No blame.

I'm interpreting the broader context of hex 14 as meaning that I have a lot to offer in terms of skills, enthusiasm, etc. Line 2 seems auspicious indeed for moving cities – I would be loading a literal wagon (well, plane) with belongings and traveling in order to undertake an exciting new venture. Line 4 is a bit less clear to me. Most translations of this line have to do with following your own path, even if it's the one less trodden, and to avoid comparing myself to others. I believe this has to do with the fact that, instead of following my classmates and getting an internship or job straight after graduation, I would be 'roughing it,' so to speak, and starting off from the very bottom.

If anyone has any insights on this reading I would be very happy to hear them! Hopefully though I will have an update for you guys soon (fingers crossed).

14.4 - Finding the right road is never easy - so a word of caution. Sometimes walking your own path takes you into swamps and quicksand. Make sure you have considered all things carefully and are clear about this. Making decisions based on a plan hastily written on an inflated balloon can very easily be popped. The junzi never creates plans that reside on blown up balloons. If there are no balloons in sight then 'Wagons Roll!'

... of course, other avenues of interpretation are open to you.

Thanks for the thoughtful & thought-provoking reply! What you're saying really resonates me, especially the part about hastily written plans on balloons. A part of me is afraid that this move is completely impulsive, so your comment has given me food for thought. It is true, however, that the fundamental reason for going is to align my outer world with my inner, as I'm not quite finding that harmony where I am at the moment.

Personally, I would read H14.2.4 <> H22 as "Dreams are a delusion".
H14 is Great Possesions, this can refer to your talents as you point out, but can also refer to "dreams", big plans. H14 is Fire above Heaven. Fire is the trigram of passion for something and Heaven the trigram of ideas and plans.
H22 is the hexagram of adornment, making things more beautiful than they are. Adornment is a form of deception, it does not show the truth or true nature.

The lower trigram Heaven generates Fire through the moving yang line at the 2nd position.
This is about focusing too much on plans and ideas that are not realistic, not having an overview of the situation. Engaging in abstract ideas that are not feasible.
Fire advises to face the truth, make things clear and straightforward.

The upper trigram Fire generates Mountain through the moving line at the 4th position.
Fire with a moving yang line is too attached to its own truth, so it does not oversee the long-term consequences of its actions. It wants to take the lead when it should be following.
Mountain's advice is to set boundaries, to step back and contemplate the situation.

What is peculiar in the answer is that in H14 trigram Fire is the upper trigram and in the related hexagram H22 the lower trigram. In H14, Fire is high in (the )Heaven(s), but in H22, Fire is below the Mountain. Mountain here acts as a lid hiding Fire.

Personally, I would not take this answer as encouragement to move to another country and city, if you would do so anyway I am afraid it will be a big disappointment.

14 is great possessions; 14.2 shows a great chariot to carry possessions; 14.4 says not everything is your way and it's OK (you talk about working in services to earn your life for instance). 22, among other things, is money, and of course, grace.

I believe moving line 4 also refers to the fact that in the past few months I've sent out many applications for jobs in this specific city and have had any positive responses yet. Perhaps it's in my cards to struggle a little?

When you relate the Yi's answer to the situation in which you asked the question, I believe an alternative or "solution" is given.

The goal in this situation is to find a job.
The lower trigram in H14 and the lower nuclear trigram in H43 are both Heaven with 1 and respectively 2 moving lines.
This could indicate that there is too much focus on the how and where. You could see this as too much focus on the dream city.
The lower nuclear trigram Heaven generates Water which advises keeping the goal of the job in mind, but remaining free in how and where that job can be found. I believe the focus on the dream city is the big obstacle here.

The lower nuclear trigram Heaven (lines 2,3 & 4) is surrounded by Fire (lines 1,5 & 6). This shows that "right/proper" action is limited/blocked by an attachment to one's own truth.
Translated to your situation, this means that the right course of action to find a job is limited by the attachment to trying to find that job in your dream city.
You could, in this case, see H22 as the dream city, namely adornment. It is not essential for finding a job but rather an extra that you like.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let everyone know how this reading played out, two months on.

I indeed moved to the city in question at the end of January, exactly a month after posting. It was a very big jump and of course I had my doubts! But in my heart it felt like the right thing to do, so I took the plunge without looking back.

Within two weeks of moving there, I found a wonderful job exactly in my field; a role where I am supported and appreciated for my talents. Through this job, I'm also being introduced to some of the biggest players in my field, which is opening a lot of doors for me. I also reconnected with my lover who is from the country that I moved to, after six months of separation, and we are now happier than ever and building a future together (but that story is perhaps for another thread entirely). And most recently, I found an apartment of my own – which, considering the housing situation both in this city and in most big cities in general, is a very big feat indeed!

In retrospect, I believe this reading was exactly on the nose. I took my talents and all of my actual possessions (hex 14) on the road (line 2). By letting go of any expectations or comparisons with others and following my own path (line 4), I'm living out my most beautiful dreams (changing hex 22)!

Funnily enough, my first evening here I asked Yi what I should know about this new chapter of my life, and the reply was: 42.1 to 20. Fruitful to undertake new beginnings! How apt!

I am acutely aware that this is only the beginning and that I still have a long road ahead, but I feel that it is the right one. How fortunate we are to be able to access Yi's guidance!
