new job

In looking at job wanted adds I came across one I think would be the answer to my problems. I ask the Yi what will happen if I apply to this job?

I got Hexagram 49.1.5 > 31

49 = THE JUDGMENT

REVOLUTION. On your own day
You are believed.
Supreme success,
Furthering through perseverance.
Remorse disappears.
Line 1 = Changes ought to be undertaken only when there is nothing else to be done.
Therefore at first the utmost restraint is necessary. One must becomes firm in
one's mind, control oneself-yellow is the color of the means, and the cow is
the symbol of docility-and refrain from doing anything for the time being,
because any premature offensive will bring evil results.

Line 5 = ° Nine in the fifth place means:
The great man changes like a tiger.
Even before he questions the oracle
He is believed.

A tigerskin, with its highly visible black stripes on a yellow ground, shows its
distinct pattern from afar. It is the same with a revolution brought about by a
great man: large, clear guiding lines become visible, understandable to
everyone. Therefore he need not first consult the oracle, for he wins the
spontaneous support of the people.

I think the judgment and line 5 are positive and seem to say that I have a good chance of getting the job. Line 1 is confusing to me, it seems to be saying do not do anything at the moment. I am wondering if line 1 could be in the past.

I was looking into your reading and realized that 49.1,5 turns into 62 and not 31...

Huh . . . how did that happen?
That changes things.

I applied to the job . . . guess I have to wait and see what happens.
I would really like this job because I would get to live in Germany part of the time.
I grew up in Germany and still have some family there.
I think the I Ching reading is positive.

intriguing... 31 is the resulting hex for the first line, and in fact when you posted the thread you may have been sort of stuck on that line, still uncertain whether to apply or not. But then, as line 5 says, even without fully understanding the oracle's response, you have become determined.

Wow . . . that blows me away.

I think when it comes to the interpretation my problem is looking for a definite answer - you know like, if you apply you will get the job or, no you will not get the job.
I wish I knew how to ask my questions in a way that would result in clear answers.
Sometimes I wonder if there is a reason for all this uncertainty.

So, I asked the Yi, will I get the job and I got, 8.3 relating Hexagram 39

8 =THE JUDGMENT

HOLDING TOGETHER brings good fortune.
Inquire of the oracle once again
Whether you possess sublimity, constancy, and perseverance;
Then there is no blame.
Those who are uncertain gradually join.
Whoever come too late
Meets with misfortune.
Iine 3 = Six in the third place means:
You hold together with the wrong people.

We are often among people who do not belong to our own sphere. In that
case we must beware of being drawn into false intimacy through force of
habit. Needless to say, this would have evil consequences. Maintaining
sociability without intimacy is the only right attitude toward people, because
otherwise we should not be free to enter into relationship with people of our
own kind later on.

I don't know but it sounds more like a no to me. Line 3 seems to say that if got this job it would prevent me from getting the job that is right for me.
Does that seem right or am I missing something important?

Any suggestions/help is deeply appreciated.
