Hello Friends,

I'm new to using the I Ching and dearly welcome any advice from the more experienced here. That said, in the past few months my ongoing interests in Carl Jung and Dr Marie-Louise Von Franz have spurred an interest to investigate the I Ching -- particularly in relation to notions of synchronicity.

With that, I was wondering if anybody could shed some light on a hexagram I cast earlier. To give context, for some time I've been planning an extended trip abroad, which, due to a number of personal circumstances and changes beyond my control, have made me question whether to still go or put things off and stay put for the moment. The time is one of 'uncertainty'. I had planned to travel on November 15, indeed the ticket remains paid and confirmed should I decide to press on. The question I asked was: "would it be advantageous for me to travel in the coming weeks".

The cast hexagram was: # 50 Ting changing to # 4 Meng
The changing lines were the third and fourth in # 50 Ting, which again, changes to # 4 Meng

Forgive me for any inconsistencies in describing the details, but as I say I'm new to all this.

I dearly look forward to any input and/or advice on using/understanding the I Ching in more depth.

Best regards,

Harry

On balance, with this answer, I would be inclined to hold back....there are unknowns here (hex 4) that can undo you (50.4) and you actually don't have quite a handle on things that you may think you have a handle on (50.3)

Just a little while longer I think before things fall into place

Nov 15 th is some while off though so things maybe okay by then. I think oyu are gopingtohave to use your access to the facts of the situation rather than rely wholly on Yi here....although actually the troubleis right now you don't really have full access to facts...there may still be unexpected factors coming up.

Try to protect yourself and not lay yourself open....it appears theres some danger of hurt of some kind for you here in 50.4...often this can be wounded pride/hurt feelings/disruption of plans/loss of dignity and control. If you heed the counsel in 50.3 this can be avoided. That is you may need to wait till things are in their proper place before you can go

Many thanks for the comment and insight, Trojan. Despite some 'unpleasant' circumstance for the minute, my gut feeling is it best to sit still for the moment. There are a number of external pending decions I'm also waiting on which will become available in the next two weeks. This will give more clarity to the circumstances. That said, I did ask the same question two weeks prior and received hexagram # 48 "The Well" changing to # 8 "Pi". Changing lines here were second and third. Any reading into that?

My overall feeling from the second reading (# 50 > # 4) is that perhaps it's best not to make any decision when things are unclear but rather to sit still and let things go through their natural process. But also, in a sense, it makes me realise the importance in tending 'small affairs' first before embarking on new projects or adventures.

Get Hilary's book.

Would it be advantageous for me to travel in the coming weeks?
50.3.4 > 4

The hexagrams seem auspicious. You will be nurtured (50) and enlightened (4). Line 3: Expect difficulty in making the contacts you wish to make. Line 4: Be very careful that baggage is not lost or damaged. Overall: an expansive experience. The Image emphasizes the importance of formalities.
