Hi All,

First, apologies for the length of the post. I thought more context was better than less in this case. Also, any and all insights are most welcome.

So I threw my annual New Years reading on the 1st, with a fairly broad stroked question:

"What is the outlook on my life in 2015?"

My main question is: does the reading below promise good fortune overall, or is it a warning, or a combination of the two.

Yi responded with 36.3.4.6 (Darkening of the light) changing to 21 (Reform/Biting through). On the surface, this did not bode well for me. In the first place, I will be leaving my job of three years to move back to Los Angeles in June; my wife has been living there while finishing grad school since I took this job back in 2012 (I'm from LA). She will be done in the summer, and our plan is for her to be the breadwinner for a few months while I build up clients for an independent educational consultancy (college planning and the like). This is what I have been doing with the company I work for, and I love it. But I am aware of how long it can take to get a profitable independent practice going. So the suggestion of a time of darkness is not encouraging.

On top of that, the company knows I will be leaving, and they don't want me to. The changing lines make me think of this, since they speak of the "ringleader of disorder" (I'm using Wilhelm) and "abolishing abuses." This seems almost to reflect last year's situation more than this year: the founder of my company was fired last Feb by our investors because he was a sort of ringleader of fiscal disorder. It has been tough for us to recover from the subsequent sea change, but I did receive a promotion to an executive level and do have quite a lot of influence now on the way things are run. But of course I'll be leaving soon, and I'm trying to lay the groundwork here for my transition, but it is a slow process.

The second changing line also speaks of a sort of power over "the commander of darkness," but this power only shows me that there is "no longer any hope of improvement." The solution here is to make my exit, which of course I have already been planning for months, openly.

The final line is tricky because at least one translation interprets it as a warning (darkness at its darkest) while others, like Wilhelm, interpret it more positively: the dark power perishes of its own darkness.

The secondary hexagram seems to reinforce my reading: Reform/Biting through. Since taking an executive role, I have been trying to implement new habits and policies that will leave a more balanced, stronger company. But there are others in the company whose ideas of good policies are antithetical, or at least in contrast, to mine. This is ongoing and probably won't change until a new generation of leaders steps in. I'll be long gone by then. So may the company be.

Obviously I'm interpreting this reading in work terms, even though I asked a general question about "my life," but with my wife living in another city (whom I see twice a month), my work is my life. That, and planning my transition home.

I deeply appreciate any insights into this reading that your collective wisdom can share with me. :bows:

Seems you will be able to see for yourself what works and what doesn't work. If something isn't working or doesn't work, you will eliminate what doesn't work, and work with what does. So although there may be times of confusion or times of lowering expectations, overall you will overcome.
