Asked the simple question, almost off-handedly: "Am I on the right track?" ...meaning generally. Got back hexagram 44 as well as a chill. Don't know how to interpret this. I've always used the IChing as a way of inserting random elements into my thinking. Not sure I believe in divination as such. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyone have an interpretation?

44 can sometimes refer to a Temptation.
Something very attractive that may have negative consequences.

What do you mean by "generally"?

Surely when you asked the question you had something on your mind, some aspect of your life, some endeavor? Did your mind wander during the casting? (Because even if one has a question in mind then starts thinking about simething else, yi may address what was in thought then... ie.. the secondary thought)

I like what Pocossin said, especially because your question was intentionally very general - whatever "track" you may be on will have to adjust itself for things that will happen - encounters that will change it. Quoting Hilary a bit from the first link:

It depends on what's happening on your path now. Since 44 is "coming to meet". Perhaps you are close, but not quite there. As if you are on your way to meet the path you should be on. Do you have good intentions? What are the intentions of those you associate with? Stay balanced. Not going too far to the right or too far to the left. Keep from having an overpowering attitude. Stay open minded, relax, and enjoy while you are on your journey. Do not allow others to overpower you either. Its common to get this answer when we want something too much. Its taking over our minds. As if we are obsessed. This is not balance. We must remain in the middle. Everything in moderation. Too much of anything will cause a negative effect. Same with too little. Consider also that your path may lead you in different directions at different times. Perhaps you have many areas to explore and learn from in this life.
