One's own day...

Hi all

Can anyone shed some light on the words in the judgement of Hexagram 49:

On your own day, you are believed.
Am eigenen Tag, da findest Du Glauben.
(Wilhelm)

One's own day, thus confidence
(Wu Jing Nuan)

Especially the "own day" puzzles me - what is meant by that?

Thank you all very much in advance

Hi Lilian

I thought this one was going to be easy? but I suspect that those here who are able to translate from the original texts might have a thing or two to say.

?On your own day? in UK English is taken as being a generalised statement referring to a special day for the person when they are honoured or are particularly empowered or are in tune with the moment and take the centre. This might have been in the mind of these authors when they chose the phrase.

However in the Ritsema Karcher?s Yi Jing? they translate the ideogram SSu Jih as literally = Before the suns zenith (mid-day); the moment when the serpent sheds its skin; the double hour of 9-11, June; the right time; the moment of transformation.

In addition; Bradford Hatcher on his site (http://www.hermetica.info/) translates this as:
?Seasonal change:
Complete the day and then be sure
Supreme fulfillment (is) worth persistence
Regrets pass?

Richard Lynn translates it as: ?Radical Change is such that only on the day when it comes to an end does one begin to enjoy trust, and then he shall have fundamental prevalence?. His regrets shall disappear.?

Alfred Huang: ?Proper day. Upon it obtain the confidence of the people. Supreme prosperous and smooth. Favourable to be steadfast and upright. Regret Vanishes.?

Hope this is helpful

I take 'one's own day' to mean 'when your time comes', so I think I'm agreeing with Cheiron. But I've always had a problem with 49. I first drew it years a go when I had been horribly treated by a client, and I decided to stop working for that company. This was a scary thing to do then, so I asked the I Ching and got 49. I took it then to mean that it was time to 'overthrow the old' - and I never did work for them again, which was quite delightful. Whatever your revolution, I hope it works well for you when your day comes
