Hello,

I recently entered a poem into a small poetry competition.
I know these types of questions are not the best ones, but I thought as I would know the outcome soon enough I might as well see if I can learn more about the I ching by throwing a divining question.

"Will I win the poetry competition?": Hexagram 10.2.5 > 21

I think that, as the sage remains solitary and unentangled, that means a no.

What do you think? :)

In other news I also asked "What will be the outcome of entering the poetry competition": 2 unchanging.

Indeed, since entering three weeks ago I have been endeavouring to write a poem a week. It's really hard to write poems (at least ones that are not pure trash) but I've been giving it a go and persisting with it, not knowing where I'm going creatively but open to what comes out. Quite a nice way of being.

Hex 10 indicates a new man coming to town on a horse.
line 10.2.5 shows that he is in the nude or naked
Hex 2 shows you that the horse he is riding is also naked

I think you have a good chance.

Dear deepstillwater,

Considering your reading, I don't think that it matters to the Yi whether or not you will win the competition. The main points are that you are being true to yourself writing poems as you want and that you are being brave enough to bring your work to public view. It is a breakthrough by itself and the result of the competition is immaterial.

That is the way I would interpret that.:bows:

Hi, thanks for your thoughts. They have let me understand it more :)

Trojan: Yes I got 10.3.4.6 previously on a question asking how to motivate myself. I'm not sure how these would go together, as they are on different questions. Would you like to elaborate what you mean?

Newlife123 and Miriam: For me, writing poems feels like being naked. The words on the page cannot hide my thoughts or emotions, although the reader would not know the context/specifics of a situation. A friend who read one said the visuals in the poem was direct and mysterious at the same time. A stranger on a horse... a symbol of mysteriousness/unknown and nakedness.

I think you are right Mirian.

Hi Trojan et al,

*Dons moderator hat*

If you find a particular genre of behaviour here baffling enough that you want to post about it, the place to do so would be the 'moderation' forum.

(Yes, of course the forum would be a better place if more people took the time to post feedback, or just thanks. But all discussion of how/ whether that can/ should be encouraged belongs there, not here.)

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies.

I did not win the poetry competition.

But I did continue writing poems, some of which have been read and seen by others as powerful pieces of writing. And I think it has been wonderful for me to understand my own experiences.

So I think it was as Marion said:
