I've been recently going through a spate of poetry rejections from journals and competitions. Sometimes I do OK, but other times I get a streak of 'nos'. I've quite a few irons in the poetry fire currently and figured one magazine in particular that's always accepted my poems would say yes, but today it didn't. :brickwall: So I asked IC, 'What advice do you have for my frustration over these poetry rejections?' And I got 47uc--Confined.

I feel I'm being aptly reminded to focus on the internal when the external says no. As Hilary puts it in 47's pairing with 48, 'The Well': 'The well is wholly connected; confined means meeting together'. In other words, I need to continue to focus on creating the poetry, draw from that internal source, and focus less on 'imagining the rewards'.

Also I found IC's very ironic, but humorous answer in Hilary's interpretation: 'Do not place too much value on words: they will not provide you with a way out – neither conversation, nor argument, nor your own reasoning and theorizing. Words alone are only circulating ideas; they lack the real, personal connection that would make them trustworthy.'

Hello Compass!

Today I made a query about my job by asking Yo what change was going to happen in it and he answered 47 uc 🙃.
In my case, I have been trapped in a situation that does not change, overwhelmed, oppressed. But the nuclear hexagram, 37, appeals to the strength of the household, of its members, of its interconnectedness. And there I have seen the light at the end of the tunnel.
So, applied to your question, I would say that even if you feel rejected with your poetry, feel that it is still your home, to put it another way, that there in that gear that sustains you, you will also see the light.

I don't know if it can help you, I hope so.
And I hope you'll soon come out of this publishing hiatus.
🙏🏼💙

Hi, Azul, thanks for the response! Yes, you're right--poetry does sustain me and that's why I hold onto it. As you say, it is still my home. I need to be reminded of that from time to time when I'm too focused on the external and the rewards, rather than the internal and the joyous light. 🙏:)

47 unchanging says that you are now suffering the effects of dealing with an exhausting situation you couldn´t change, so maybe you should throw in the towel before things become even worst. Unwilling to adapt to this challenge you may lose the opportunity for growth. Try to do something to get out of there instead of being confined. The way you´re doing is not useful anymore so try something different, talk to people, ask for help if needed. Perhaps stepping back or changing course is the only way to move forward?

The Image often gives the key advice about how one should navigate the hexagram.
47’s image states “Noble one carries out the mandate. Fulfills his aspiration.”
This suggests to me you are being encouraged that despite the recent frustrations, writing poems is your true calling even if they are not always a source of income for you.

My mother drew delightful cartoons that occasionally got published and she made a few bucks but while her efforts weren’t particularly financially rewarded, the fame and reputation and just plain fun she had doing the work and then hosting ”card-signing parties” at her home gave her and all her friends such joy that it was worth it. Plus, curiously enough, as she put energy into her art work at the same time money seemed to come in from other sources.

So whether or not your poems are commercially successful just now…
Write on!
