Well, as my relationship readings don't leave much room for hope, I have asked another question regarding my career - and as the answer seems so wonderful, I wanted to share this - maybe to also get a second opinion to make sure it is not just a reflection of wishful thinking.

Here's the background: I have been contemplating a career change for a while now. It is not just a small shift but a complete turnaround into a totally different and unrelated field and it involves completing another university degree. For much of the last couple of months I have been somewhat reserved, in a state of disbelief that I could or would really do this. Yet I took all the necessary steps, rearranged my finances to be able to study again, completed and passed the entry exam - and well, here I am, a student again!
So I asked: What are my prospects for a career in (field)?
And received: 16.4 to 2

The 4th line of hex 16:
Source of enthusiasm.
Great possessions gained.
Do not doubt.
Partners are gathered together as a hair clasp gathers hair.'

First I notice, I do get a lot of hex 2 as relating hexagram. Don't know what this could mean... Any ideas?
This reading however sounds really wonderful: not only enthusiasm, but "the source of enthusiasm" (could it be that I will finally find my true calling?) - "great possessions gained" (and earn a good salary?) - "Do not doubt" (yes, indeed, I still cannot fully believe I'm actually doing this, much less to be really working in this field!) - "Partners are gathered together as a hair clasp gathers hair" (and I will even find - not one - but several partners! - not for a commited relationship, I assume, but for collaboration on interesting projects?)

Something in me is inclined to say: this is just wishful thinking. This is what I wish it will be. Is there a possibility that it is just that? Or does it indeed predict a successful career in this field?

Hex 2 is a place of realisation - welcoming and giving things form.
Hex 16 advises that you bring things together so that you are ready to act when the time comes.
line 4 is the line of decision making and choices to find the right road.
So if you start to make the right choices, take the right actions, step towards what you are wishing for then things will come good. Right now you are riding the 'hesitating elephant' ( Karcher) however if you seek assistance, join the dots and pull it all together then there will be a positive outcome. The biggest obstacle seems to be your own doubt ( not a welcoming energy to have around) - Yi clearly advises 'Do not doubt'.

Good Luck

Thank you, rosada - that is a very illuminating image for me. Slowly everything starts to make sense. Somewhere in this forum I've read discussions about the interpretation of the relating hexagram - whether it should be seen as the outcome of the actions or situation described before or rather as just the background of the question.
Here it clearly is the background and it could mean that this new field I'm moving into is still a blank sheet of paper but the prospects are excellent if I keep my enthusiasm. (Which, I must admit, again raises some doubt - I know myself. There will be a point when difficulties arise, when I will feel overwhelmed, tired, frustrated, under pressure - this has always happened, even with easier subjects. Usually, when this happens I take a break, I withdraw for some time until I feel ready to engage again. But this time I know I will not be able to withdraw. The curriculum of the degree programme is tight and finances do not allow pauses. Will I be able to cope with that pressure?)

The image of a blank piece of paper makes also sense in my relationship reading. Here also I would interpret it as the background of the question. Indeed it might well describe me. I often get the feeling that - despite not being so young any more and despite all of my experiences - in some significant way I am still a blank piece of paper. I look around and see people entangled in their lives, but I am not. Often I feel everything up to now has just been preparation. It has not started yet. But I'm here, ready for something to happen.

Thank you also my_key for taking the time to comment on my question.
Well, I guess doubt is my second name ;-)
It doesn't affect my preparations though. I'm enrolled, I'm taking preparatory classes, the programme is pretty strict and straight forward, the way is clear. The subjects I will be studying are difficult but (so far) they seem to accomodate my personality better than what I've been doing previously. However...
My doubt comes from knowing myself - will I be able to cope with the pressures and difficulties that will necessarily come my way?

Interesting you mention your pattern seems to be that you initially feel enthusiasm but then things become complicated and you feel doubt and need to take a break. This enthusiasm-then break cycle seems to be mirrored in 16.4 - 2 : First the enthusiastic moment and then the need for all to (2) quiet down.

(Interesting also that 16.5 seems to capture this pattern as a repeating cycle - the enthusiasm and then the break, then more enthusiasm, then another break- like a description of many lifetimes, one after another - death and rebirth and still the beat goes on.)

So in reference to your situation I could see16.4 as being really positive, a grand adventure, maybe it will be just one of many or maybe it will last a lifetime, but it seems that it could go well and when it’s over you’ll be pleased with the ride - like the Frank Sinatra song, It Was a Very Good Year!

Further thoughts,
It occurs to me that if 16.4 were a job description it could be saying “Event Planner” as in someone who produces single events and then becomes quiet until the next assignment.

"Event Planner", for sure, would not be a suitable job for me. You need to be very outgoing, have to deal with a lot of different people all the time, be very sociable - I'm more the silent, reclusive type who gets enthusiastic about solving a problem by herself or working within a small team of familiar people. Outbursts of joyful sociabiliy do happen, but are rather rare. Most of the time social gatherins and incessant social interaction just leave me feeling drained.
But you are very right in seeing a pattern of enthusiasm - doubt - withdrawal - and yes, this also seems to be a very apt interpretation of 16.4 > 2 - with the additional reassurance that - whatever the outcome may be - I should have no doubt that 'I'll be pleased with the ride'. Thank you again for helping me to see this clearer!

Update 2021: "Do not doubt" was a line in my reading two years ago about a complete career change. I do still doubt, but much less so - and, indeed, I was very pleased with the ride. Meaning I am two years into my bachelors degree in engineering with one more year to go and I really enjoy it. It has been tough at times - mainly financially - but I am among the best students of my class and job opportunities seem to be coming my way already.
