Hello everyone,

I'm new to the I Ching and have started with Alfred Huang's interpretation. I like this version because it includes Confucius' wings, and from what I understand, many interpretations do not. Anyway, I am confused as to determining the approached gua when there is more than one moving line. Do you change both lines to determine the approached gua..? For example, if you are given hex 15 with moving lines 2 and 3, is your approached gua now hex 7..? Or are you only supposed to change one line to determine the approached gua..? I hope this makes sense.

Thank you,

Rick

Hi and welcome,

The short answer is that, a priory, all moving lines change to give you the "zhi gua" (related hexagram, approached gua, derived hexagram, etc.)
