Hi all, On a number of questions I have asked the iching recently, I have recieved as a changing hexagram hexagram 10. Mind you these are unrelated questions. I find this interesting as really more than anything in life I feel like I am in a stagnant position, trying to slog through external and internal obstacles and barriers.

Has anyone here had a similar experience, as in receiving multiple times the same changing hexagram in a time period on unrelated (or seemingly unrelated questions?

It's hard to tell, of course...um, sometimes themes can crop up in a person's life in different ways? Maybe this is a particularly "tigerish" time for you, sort of like a "clumsy day" writ larger? You say you feel stagnant, though...?

Or maybe they're not different tigers...could Yi be trying to get your attention about some particular tiger, by hijacking various other questions to mention it? Yi probably doesn't do that for no reason, so it's probably something important, if that's what's happening.

For example, I once got a bunch of hexagram 23s that I couldn't make sense of in the context of the questions. It turned out there was an object that was in danger of splitting apart, and Yi was trying to warn me in time to prevent it. Unfortunately I didn't understand it until I found the split-apart thing. I know what caused it, so if I would have understood the readings I could have fixed it.

Let us know if you find any tigers, and best wishes taming them...

Thanks for the reply Lisa,
and guess what you were quite correct! I did step on a tiger's tale, sort of...
A few days after this a dramatic situation/blow up occurred in a group I am a part of. The short version is, due to miscommunication and the twisting of things said I was incorrectly blamed for something I didn't do... an unavoidable situation as the miscommunication wasn't on my part, and I unfortunately suspect that one of the other parties twisted and misrepresented what I said to stir a pot of sorts... such that I will never communicate with her again via anything other than text or email as I want to make sure I have a virtual paper trail so that she can't ever misrepresent me again. If what you wrote does indeed apply to this situation, its a weird one, as the tiger was invisible, and I didn't step on its tail so much as it hit my foot with it's tail and then chomped me for a perceived attack. I am currently doing my best to provide clarity as to the actual sequence of events and communication, and hopefully that will clear things up.

Oh dear. I'm sorry to hear this.

I'm trying to figure out what to make of the repeated hexagram 10s for something you couldn't avoid...

The oracle says -

'Treading a tiger’s tail.
It does not bite people.
Creating success.'

Hilary says in her commentary (all this is from her book) -

"There are tigers in the outer world, and also inner tigers; as you get close, it’s good to recognise the tiger for what it is. Treading the tiger’s tail is perilous – yet if you can move in harmony with it, you can invite its power into your own life as protection, fertility and blessing. To do this without getting bitten requires both skill and care. Look to the power and intensity you are drawn to in the situation: its specific danger is there, and also its potential gift."

Parts of that sound like what you're doing - recognizing the tiger for what it is, moving with it, using skill and care to avoid getting bitten (or at least avoid getting bitten again in the future) - all those things will protect you from (future) tigers, and maybe that's the gift. You'll be in a stronger position now.

Not sure, though. Would all that have happened the same way if you hadn't gotten any hexagram 10 readings? Did the hexagram 10s help you realize "this is really important and I mustn't brush it off"? I can envision Yi helping to distinguish between isolated mishaps (which might not need sustained attention) and systemic underlying problems (which do).

Actually, the Image mentions differentiation:

'Heaven above, lake below.
Treading.
A noble one differentiates above and below,
And makes a place for the people’s aspiration.'

That's in the context of "aspiration," though, so maybe it's not the same kind of differentiating. I don't know.

Hi,

The trigram of lake always speaks of joy to me. Whether it is in the sense of focusing upon where it comes from, or how it feels, or as an approach to take depends upon the situation and question. The inner trigram is the inner part of the situation in the question. Usually that means you, the questioner. It can also be an aspect of your inner self. It could be the kind of person you are, or want to be, or need to be.

In any case the lake is pleasant exchange and joy. The surface of the lake reflects the outer environment. There are also inner qualities, below the surface. In a marsh there are life forms in all stages. The depths are darker, colder, muddier. The lake is fed by other sources: underground water, a stream, rainwater. The lake is full to the brim. It is contained in the limits of the banks, it is a bowl. It is a place where people gather to relax, share laughter and stories. It is an easy time in exchange of ideas of interest.

You did not ask a specific question, or rather you had a number of questions. So this is some general ideas of the inner trigram of lake.

Outside is the trigram of heaven. It can represent the outer situation, or the aspect you show the world, or anything outside. Heaven has many associations with the outside world. It is manifestation, structure, action in perfect timing. It can also be the patriarch, rules, and foundations. It can be what you tread through. It cold be your approach or how you are perceived. It all depends on the personal application.

In a visceral way, the lines, look, and shape of it H10 is heavy with yang lines. The bit of yin is at that funky line three place. There is a little opening there in the center. This place has a sense of looking back at the original intentions of the situation, in line 1. There is also the surface and rubbing against heaven. Good feeling, hanging out by the lake, meets the force, timing and destiny of heaven.

I am offering some imagery of the trigrams and lines in a general way. The question, your focus, your situation and unique perspective will pull images that are meaningful for you.

There are no bad trigrams. :bows:

Blessings

Hex 10 especially UC often feels like a child pulling at my skirt to get my attention. It is easy just to ignore and carry on. This is until something is actually wrong. Whenever I get a series of 10s, it reminds me of when I was walking in the Forest heavily pregnant with my 4 year old daughter. She was skipping behind me and constantly saying MUm, Mum, can you come back - I have hurt my knee. She was always showing me the slightest dent, scratch - and this was not unusual. This went on for a while and I did eventually turn round. She had caught her knee on some metal and it was cut right through to the bone on the knee. It involved 12 stitches...... The tiger in the forest, especially if I get it more than once reminds me of this incident. Somebody or thing requires your attention, dont ignore....
Bear in mind that this is also a very auspicious hexagram in that the thought, or idea that keeps popping in your head - dont ignore it....

I have been thinking of hex 10 and there is another element to it that has just popped into my head. I have had hex 10 at various times in my life. Sometimes, it could be that I walk through the same forest - put myself in the same danger - and when I get repeated hex 10 - almost enjoy, or get something out of the fear associated with it - almost like going on a ghost train at the fair.

What am I failing to recognise perhaps -

thanks for the replies all. If indeed the repeating 10 was about the incident I wrote about, it's bad news in this context. I ended up writing a very detailed email to a supervisor of sorts that clearly laid out the sequence of events, stressing that a crucial bit of info was withheld from me, and the response was not at all good, frankly it wasn't rational and was purely emotional... none of the info I relayed was addressed, and I was in essence criticized/repudiated for not being a mind reader, and a whole host of other incorrect accusations were placed upon me as well. A bad situation all around.

Leonine, I'm sorry to hear this. I'm trying to understand what we may have missed in the readings.

I just noticed that what you actually said - in the title and in your first post - was "repeating changing hexagram 10." You said "changing," but when I read it, my mind saw "unchanging," readings where you would have received just single hexagram 10s, without moving lines.

Did you receive moving lines? It would make a difference in interpretation if you did.

In any event, it's distressing when things turn out like this.

By any chance, did you ask Yi about the email before you sent it?

Hi Lisa,

I had asked a number of unrelated questions in the time beforehand and kept getting Hexagram 10 as the related/changing hexagram, i.e. hexagram x with lines 2 and 3 changing to Hexagram 10 etc.

As for the email, I asked the Iching if there was anything I should consider re sending the supervisor type the email, and recieved hexagram 7 unchanging. this one has always confused me a bit, but in reading around here it seemed that the message was get your ducks in a row... which I did... I reviewed all that happened, clearly wrote about it with almost military precision etc etc etc. Frankly, I have no control over the response I sent, I saw it not just an attempt on my part to set the record straight, but to clearly express myself as best I could to do so, so while the response was in my opinion completely unwarranted and unhelpful and frankly off-topic, I did my best, and at the end of the day, thats all i could do.

I also asked about writing an email to the woman who I feel jammed me up, and recieved 63.2 > 5
Hexagram 63 After completion
Line 2 A woman has lost the curtain of her carriage. There is no need to look for it. After seven days it will be found.

The message of this seemed to say, based on the lines, the changing hexagram and other's writing of it on this site... do nothing and what was lost will return. That hasn't happened yet, but I took it to mean, there is no point. And if indeed she did purposefully, to one degree or another, jam me up what point would there be in messaging her?

I also asked , "why did X stir the pot", and recieved 38.2 > 21
Opposition Hexagram 38
Line 2: One meets his lord in a narrow street. No blame.

I don't think that answers the question, though it does describe the situation... as for the lord met in the narrow street... the only good thing to come of this is that I have a stronger sense of self and some unfortunate data to consider, but that is better than ignorance.

All in all an unfortunate and needless situation, but we can't really control other people and their perceptions or reactions, can we?
