After some very good advice yesterday from a forum member I rephrased my question today : How can I attract more wealth in the next 12 months? Well I got 43 1.2.3.4. to 8. Maybe I am having an off period with the Oracle, but I am more confused than I was yesterday!! I have always had difficulty with an hexagram where there are a lot of moving lines. Please help me making sense of this reading. Any advice gratefully received.!!

(the previous phrasing) to make more money, should I leave my present job? I got 57 2.6 to 39
(the new phrasing) How can I attract more wealth in the next 12 months? Well I got 43 1.2.3.4. to 8

Both your answers show that you'd better stay where you are.
57.2.6 > 39 shows a lot of scribes, perhaps meaning lots of ads, and 57.6 speaks of loss of income. 39 shows a blocked way.
43.1.2.3.4 > 8 speaks of a wrong step, stress, loneliness, and very tough conditions - and 8 shows being together/close-by with others.

Perhaps the answers are such because you don't have another job lined up yet.
So the way things stand, leaving your current job does not bode well.

Thank you Diamanda for taking the the time to reply. I would never leave a job, unless I have another lined up. I really just wanted to know if it was worth the trouble to go looking for another one, where I could earn more. The advice seems to be stay where you are,any new job it's not necessarily going to be any better, and maybe the money in my present one will improve. That is my understanding of the reading. I have always had problems understanding so many changing lines, especially when they contradict each other!

Then it would be a good idea to phrase your question a lot more precisely, e.g. "is it worth the trouble looking for another job in September?", or "what can I do to get a raise during September". Whenever possible I try to set time limits to my questions, so that they're not too general. Then even if the answers are not good, you just have to wait a month till you review the situation!

Hi
I ask alot of questions about increasing my income, 12 months is very broad, the reading about leaving your job now does lead to 39, 39 to me is like hiking and there is a big boulder where you may have walk miles to get around it to get back on the correct path, not good,

I think asking how you could improve your income over a monthly period is a good idea.

Somewhere on this site there is info on different methods of reading more than 1 changing lines

Yes there are several modules in the Foundations Course which we are currently working through here on multiple changing lines. I'd recommend the course for a thorough and precise exploration of how we might deal with multiple moving lines in a reading. We are currently ambling through the course at leisure, together in threads in Change Circle

http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/shop/change-circle/#foundations

. I think with 4 changing lines your could look up the 2 unchanging lines under the second hexagram. In your case, that would be Hex 8 line 5 and 6. Hope these lines give you some clarity

Why on earth would you do that ? I don't recommend that at all.

If you have 4 change lines you can read them like a story, a sequence, you might read them as options...or you might look to the change patterns which here are 34 yang and 20 yin. With the cast and the change patterns I'd say you feel quite forceful about this but it's time to pull back a little and reflect what you belong with and what you don't.

Naturally wealth of all kinds follows going to where you naturally belong although not necessarily financial.

Thank for replying Blue Eagles. I have never heard of interpreting the answers in the way that you mention. But then I am completely self taught. I have never taken any formal courses. Maybe I should try the ones that Hilary offers!!

Thank you Steve for replying.I was under the impression that it was not a good idea to be that specific in asking a question. I stand corrected. Before rephrasing my question I did ask it in a way that required a yes and no answer as rightly pointed out by Blue Eagle. I really must think very carefully about this, as it leads to difficulties in interpreting.

I ask quite frequently how can increase my income this week as I work myself and the answers are usually quite clear, it does depend on your individual situation as I work for myself so increasing my income is usually up to myself and my attitude. In your case I might ask how can increase my income over the next month. There are ways online for example like freelance work, I am not sure of your skills all i am saying is that the Yi may give a hint at what you maybe should do.

Just a note on changing lines to me the situation can be moving fast or slow depends on the question. I think the lines are telling a story of what will happen if you take that path, or if for example you have 2 positive lines and one negative I would take that as yes you are on the correct path but be aware of this example I had 28.1.2.5>16 Lines 1 and 2 are quite positive however line 5 not so much. So i took this as being on the correct path but beware of line 5. I didnt put so much emphasis on 16. However if all lines are negative or positive then I put much much more emphasis on the resulting hex as well as its cut a clear path.

I kind of refined my method from the way Rosada may explain many lines changing, kind of like being told a story.
As you can see though everyone has there own methods as long as you get clarity is the main point and that the Yi is understanding how you read the hexagrams.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for sharing your insights. I believe the IC communicates with you the way you understand it, at least if you have spent enough time to build a relationship with it. A while ago I introduced the IC to a friend, she told me it feels like the IC is a friend who knows you. I feel the same way.
I'm not sure if there are any hard and fast rules for interpreting ... That's is just my opinion. However, since I'm still learning, I do like to learn about different ways of interpretation and eventually I just go with my own intuitive direction. Sometimes that is reading it like a story and sometimes I need another method or perspective.

Anyways, this is what I meant with info on this side about how to read multiple moving lines.
http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/learn/interpreting-the-i-ching/multiple-moving-lines/

"Three methods to limit the number of moving lines

Master Yin’s rules

Alfred Huang, in his Complete I Ching, has a set of rules for reducing multiple moving lines to just one:

2 moving lines, one yin, one yang: consult the yin one.
2 moving lines of the same kind: consult the lower one.
3 moving lines: consult the middle one
4 moving lines: consult the upper of the two unmoving lines
5 moving lines: consult the one unmoving line
6 moving lines: just consult the Judgement of the relating hexagram (except in hexagrams 1 and 2, when there is a special text for all six lines moving)
That reduces this reading to just line 2 – arguably the essence of the reading, but it seems a shame to miss the recognition and insight of line 4.

Zhuxi’s rules

These are similar to Huang’s – they give the same result for this reading – but not identical:

1 line changes: read that line
2 lines change: uppermost is most important
3 change: middle most important, with uppermost possibly confirming (but if they are contradictory stick with the middle one)
4 change: go over to the second hexagram and take the lowermost of the two lines that have not changed from the first hexagram
5 change: in the second hexagram take the line that hasn’t come from a change in the first hexagram
6 change: then the first hexagram’s situation is entirely past or on the brink of change, the second hexagram is more important. Take the judgement
If no lines change you can read the ruling line, if there are two ruling lines then take the uppermost.

The Nanjing rules

The earliest recorded I Ching divinations are in the Zuo Commentary, and they never consult more than one line. Sometimes they choose a line text to consult, sometimes a Judgement. In the 1920s, a group of scholars reconstructed a method that would account for the ancient diviners’ choices. Here is its application to this reading:

Add all 6 line numbers (moving yang=9; stable yin=8; stable yang=7; moving yin=6): 9+9+8+9+7+8=50
Subtract the result from 55:
55-50=5
Use this remainder to count up to the relevant line – line 5.
This line being unchanging, when there are exactly 3 changing lines, the hexagram statements from both first and second hexagrams form the oracle, and the line texts aren’t referred to at all."

You're right, there are no hard and fast rules for interpreting, heaven forbid...but to reduce a multiple line reading to a one line reading just to make it easier is to disregard one's actual answer. If you do that you are making a reading far less than what it ever was. Why do that ?

Sometimes I may add also the resulting hex can be the general situation or how you may feel in any reading, but i have to agree, you want as much information as possible.

Exactly.

Also, once upon a time I was using a computer program (San Shan Yijing) to cast my readings, and it had an option built into it to cast readings that could only ever have one moving line. Out of frustration I tried that for a while and lo and behold it did not result in me suddenly understanding all my readings. It didn't make a difference at all, as far as being "easier". I was disappointed! (lol) But I went back to casting the normal way.

Thank you Blue Eagle for sharing your interpretations of the IChing. I must admit that in my interpretations I use a lot of gut feelings. Also it has happened that a reading feels more like a psychotherapy session. I don't know if I am explaining myself properly and you understand what I really mean, but I cannot think of any other words. Thank you to everyone that replied, I especially like the suggestion to think of multiple moving lines as a story that is unfolding.

Hello everyone, just a quick update on my work/money situation. I have been given a small pay rise, which will help, better than nothing. So thank you to everyone that advised me not to start looking for another job.Nevertheless, after one year in this present job (next spring) I do have to have a rethink, as much as I like it, I am existing and not living. Once again, my heartfelt thanks to everyone that replied to my question.
