Hi again all!

Following up on some practical concerns alluded to in my last posting.

I inquired of the Yi: "If my daughter attends X school this summer?" and got 62.2>32.

Should I interpret this as "Don't expect big changes or great consequences from this choice if you keep in close communication with the staff and administration. It will be similiar (32) to the expectations and circumstances in her current school."

My daughter is very bright, but because she is on the autism spectrum (high functioning), we've had terrible trouble in summer programs created for "normal" kids. The teachers were literally unnerved by her--and she could sense that.

This school is specifically for "gifted and talented" kids and has experience with plenty of odd behavior. It's also expensive--and they don't refund money if a child is asked to leave half way through the summer (a situation we've face twice already). Clearly we don't want to make a poor decision here!

Any thoughts on this reading? Any feedback would be mucho appreciated!

Hi Philish,

Here's how I see these readings:

62 "In the present hexagram it is the weak element that perforce must mediate with the outside world." Unfortunately, 62 refers to a situation where hidden strength is unrecognized. The outer world only sees the outward weakness. "Small things may be done, great things may not be done." An attempt to gain an outward improvement may be thwarted.

62.2 It's important to try to follow through on what needs to be done, when handling official business. Try to meet with the people at the top. If the officials don't do their part, there is no blame on the ordinary person.

changing to

32 A positive union comes about from standing firm with dedication, as the outer circumstances swirl.

Overall, then:

Expect people to live out their prejudices and try to fulfill their shallow stereotypes. Expect that people will misjudge and notice the worst interpretation, without looking at the heart. Expect that officials will fail to follow through on their responsibilities, leaving you hanging. If despite all of this, you maintain persistence to what is right and good, eventually you will find a positive union that is successful.

It's clear that this reading shows you'll have to be persistent to overcome bureaucratic inertia.

I can't tell from this reading if the particular school you have in mind could come around through your persistence. Perhaps you will have to give up on them, in order to find a better match between your daughter's strengths & needs and what the school is able to provide.

Ah. I'll inquire the opposite "If daughter DOESN'T attend..." and see what YI says.

We are considering other options, so I'll inquire about those and post them here as well.

Thank you, Ben, for the your thoughts!

It really is my pleasure, Philish. May I recommend you also ask something like,
What is the most empowering factor to help our daughter get the best education?
and
What is the best way for us to recognize an excellent school that gives educational stability all season long?

I don't have any extra insight on this issue but I just want to say good luck on finding a good summer programs for your daughter. I have friends whose children are on a large spectrum of learning/behavioral issues. I sympathize with the fact that much of the traditional educational system don't necessarily provide the right training to teachers in order to deal with "atypical" learning behaviour. This may require some certain amount of luck in finding a program with caring and patient (and open-minded) teachers.

So. Good luck!
